Publisher's Summary

Thomas Senlin and his crew of outcasts have been separated, and now, they must face the dangers of the labyrinthine tower on their own in this third audiobook in the word-of-mouth phenomenon fantasy series.

Fearing an uprising, the sphinx sends Senlin to investigate a plot that has taken hold in the ringdom of Pelphia. Alone in the city, Senlin infiltrates a bloody arena where hods battle for the public's entertainment. But his investigation is quickly derailed by a gruesome crime and an unexpected reunion.

Posing as a noble lady and her handmaid, Voleta and Iren attempt to reach Marya, who is isolated by her fame. While navigating the court, Voleta attracts the unwanted attention of a powerful prince whose pursuit of her threatens their plan.

Edith, now captain of the sphinx's fierce flagship, joins forces with a fellow wakeman to investigate the disappearance of a beloved friend. She must decide who to trust as her desperate search brings her nearer to the Black Trail, where the hods climb in darkness and whisper of the Hod king.

As Senlin and his crew become further dragged in to the conspiracies of the tower, everything falls to one question: Who is the Hod king?

Best One Yet!

I love this series! I love the audiobook narrator! I also really love how we spend separate time with a whole crew of characters. It has evolved quite a bit from the largely solitary adventure of the first book. The climax of this book really had me pumping my fist several times. What an epic! Can't wait for the conclusion (?) in book 4. P.S. Audible, please get this narrator (John Banks) reading much more than Warhammer 40.000 novels.

A wonderful work of genius and one of the best things I’ve ever read or listened to in my life. An amazing narrator reading the work of an amazing writer.

20 hours of pure genius

This series is so very hard to review, because it's like nothing I've ever read. The author's prose is so unique, along with John Banks perfect delivery, makes it an actual delight to the system. The main characters are all endearing to the point of laughing with them and crying for them. Highs and lows abound in this episode, so prepare yourself for a real roller coaster ride.

Great book

The Tower of Babel is an oppressive but fascinating place full of mystery, intrigue, and discovery. The third book in the series, Tom, our protagonist still has not learned much. However, what he lacks in education, he has gained in a loyal gaggle of friends--misfits he met in the tower--who will endure to the end to help him navigate a path to his goal: to save his wife...

Classic!

This is to date my favorite story in a long time. I am hoping Bancroft has more Tower stories. Narration is premium, story is as immense as the Tower. I will be waiting, eagerly for the next (?) book. I can guarantee I will listen again, to the entire saga. If you're on the fence about this, don't be. It's a great listen. Hard to categorize the genre, not really sci-fi but a bit sci-fi, not fantasy but yes fantasy, Drama for sure, intrigue, mystery. A win win win.

Wonderful Sequel

The new book takes a lot of risks in structure, but they pay off in droves

Just keeps getting better and better

No-o-o-o-o-o, don't stop here. I want everything tied up in a bow, a pretty bow. "The Hod King" is the third book in the "Books of Babel" series and is storytelling at its best. I have problems with a few of the characters' voices by John Banks, but overall he does an excellent job. I hope there is more to come.
