High hopes, low results

I’ve really enjoyed the authors’ other works, like the Joshua series. I was hoping this book would be similar—and indeed the premise and concept follows similar lines, in its gentle critique of church structures. However, the story just became too simple and predictable, and felt like it was dragging on without much intrigue or excitement. It started well, with real conflicts and questions. But in the middle, it became quite the banal tale, mainly due to the fact that it was over simplified and optimistic, everything was explained away and somehow every detail always worked out “just so”, to the betterment of everyone. It was honestly not very believable. I also soon grew weary of the narrator’s contrived Italian accent, and because of these factors, I unfortunately could not finish through to the end.
