Publisher's Summary

"Acho’s gregariously pragmatic delivery educates with clarity and makes the book come alive." -- Booklist

"Narrated by the author, this audio program feels like an evening with a good friend who doesn't shy away from awkward questions.... A personal interview with his editor, great production standards, and his personality make this an accessible listen. Listeners may become uncomfortable but will want to keep listening." - AudioFile Magazine on Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man

This program is read by the author, and includes a bonus conversation.

An urgent primer on race and racism, from the host of the viral hit video series Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man”

“You cannot fix a problem you do not know you have.” So begins Emmanuel Acho in his essential guide to the truths Americans need to know to address the systemic racism that has recently electrified protests in all fifty states. “There is a fix,” Acho says. “But in order to access it, we’re going to have to have some uncomfortable conversations.”

In Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man, Acho takes on all the questions, large and small, insensitive and taboo, many white Americans are afraid to ask—yet which all Americans need the answers to, now more than ever. With the same open-hearted generosity that has made his video series a phenomenon, Acho explains the vital core of such fraught concepts as white privilege, cultural appropriation, and “reverse racism.” In his own words, he provides a space of compassion and understanding in a discussion that can lack both. He asks only for the listener’s curiosity—but along the way, he will galvanize all of us to join the antiracist fight.

Even better than the YouTube series!

I love this guy! I never heard of him before the pandemic but he's amazing. If you want to be an ally then listen to this book. White people may find it easier to digest than White Fragility. Emmanuel comes off as approachable, open and educated.
I'll be referring this to my white friends and other people that want me to educate them on the plight of Blacks.

Must read

This book is a must read by everybody. But especially by people who want to understand what racism looks like, our part in creating it and more importantly our part in changing it.
Thank you Emmanuel for shining your light and helping us see.

Beyond Expectations

I listened to the audio book as I was reading the book so I could hear it from the perspective of a black man and it's even more powerful than reading it on my own and depending on the voice in my head.

Every white person ever should read/listen to this!

So much is in this book to help teach, educate and inform about black culture, tear down racism but even more so, build a better society together. A must read for everyone, especially white people. Especially those wanting to grow, learn, and help move forward. Come with an open heart and open mind and you’ll be amazed at how much it will change and impact you! Thank you for writing this book.

Informative and Insightful

Thank you Emmanuel for the education. As a black Canadian woman, I also learned alot from your conversation particularly learning about the electoral college and some of its tactics, a term I heard alot but never took the time to research it (my bad). Thanks for speaking your truth and sharing your perspectives having been emmersed in both black and white culture. It was most enjoyable "read":).
