    Discussion: Actual Plays

Concept: LANCER rpg in Nu Avalon with guests with real life knowledge on how to solve issues (Socialologists, philosophers, Engineers etc.)

    Advice:
    1. Find a Niche - An interesting RPG, or interesting format.
    2. Accessibility - Brining the game in a way the audience can digest well. (Mentioned: Wing Women, Dungeons and Daddies)

    Issues to be aware going forwards;

Issue 1: New system - not well known.

    Issue 2: Scheduling conflicts.
Pre-record: Missing some live elements and energy.
Live: Can have issues with technical issues/ scheduling.

Issue 3: Chemistry and performance - A Stream can live and die on the energy between the cast.

Issue 4: Attendance - Real life still happens and can mean people have to drop out.

Issue 5: Support - Tech, Planning, Art, Community, social media, and much more. All of these are important to consider as these as important if not more than the game running and writing.

Issue 6: Funds - Are you going to ask for money/sponsorship/community funds, or will this be out of pocket.

Issue 7: Platform - Twitch, YouTube, and Kik all exists and each have different rules, ad share, and function.

There will be a Part 2.

    Tone and Style
Remember: Lancer believes in a future where a better world is possible, has been achieved, and is expanding. While we can’t look over your shoulder or edit your texts for you, we do encourage you to write in our house style: earnest, smart, aware of power and the dynamics between the oppressed and their oppressors, and with an aim towards clarity. Lancer is soft science fantasy that wears hard science fiction’s suits — write big, but keep people in mind.

Lancer thinks things can and should be better, and isn’t afraid to write stories exploring what that looks like. Cruel and evil events can happen, but they shouldn’t be celebrated — they should be stopped. You’re playing lancers— the cavalry. Write settings and situations that call for some big damn heroes to get in there and help the right people; even if they don’t save the galaxy, liberating the city is good work enough.”

Rigid collodion - a how to guide.

    A Guide for Retiring Characters

    Prime people

Message player ahead of time and let them know your plans

notify people in game if you wanted to achieve something in particular that they can help you with.

    Realistic Goals

Give yourself goals and very low bars for success as much of it will be outside of your control.

Decide what you’d be happy with; Do you want a particular trigger phrase to start a scene. Do you want a very curated experience, or a more organic one?

    Reorganizing is an option

If a conversation or moment doesn’t go quite as well as you wanted, see if you can create a open document e.g. GoogleDocs with the players to “rework” that moment.

    Be aware of narrative arcs

What feels natural for something to happen, if it works, go with it.

Forgive yourself if it doesn’t go to plan.

Be aware of your needs: Go eat, drink, and sleep. Taking care of yourself is big a clever.

  • Episode 10: Bleed
    Apr 6 2023
CW: Mention of a death in the family at 1h 1 m. SHOW NOTES:Intro:Lancer Tactics by OliveOperation: Solstice Rain by Massif PressStolen Crown by Laurie O’ConnelChildren of Memory by Adrian TchaikovskyDiscussion: Bleed“People are more important than LARPS,”People often refer to bleed-in when it is the player's emotional state that affects the character. For example, a scared player may lead to a character that is jumpy, nervous, or overly cautious. Bleed-out is used to refer to bleed in the other direction - here it is the character's inner state that affects the player. So, a character who is in love with another character may bleed-out into the player feeling affectionate towards the other character and/or the other player. Nordic LARP WikiNerdist Article written by Courtney Kraft“Emotional bleed from intense roleplay can happen to anyone, no matter how old or experienced you are. So how do you recognize when it happens and how do you cope? Here are some tips:Be conscious: If you notice yourself feeling a strong emotion about your roleplay, pause. Consciously ask yourself if these are your character’s feelings or your personal ones. Remember: The character is not the player.Check in with other players: Talk to them after the game (or even during) to make sure everyone is on the same page. Whether you’re playing lovers or enemies, you don’t know if everyone has the ability to separate emotions the same way you do.Explore your out of game feelings: Maybe there is something to what you’re feeling toward this other player. Acknowledge it and allow yourself to proceed consciously and safely. Lots of people make real friends and sometimes even find love through RPGs.Talk to someone unrelated to the game: Sometimes what we need is an objective opinion to provide us with a rational outlook on the situation.Listen to the experts: For even more advice, listen to our friends at the Life.Action.Roleplay! podcast episode about roleplaying relationships, bleed, and aftercare.” Guardian Article by Jenny Valentish that summarises There and Back Again: Bleed from Extraordinary Experiences DAVIDE C.
