À propos de cet audio

In Beyond the Buzzword, we move past the catchphrases and dive deep into the real-world
consequences of environmental neglect. From the rise and ruin of Nauru, once the world’s
richest island nation, to the ecological disruption caused by invasive blue crabs in Venice,
and the hidden links between biodiversity loss and natural disasters such as wildfires, this
series reveals how human choices are reshaping the planet. Each episode brings a sharp,
thoughtful look at how our values—economic, cultural, and ecological—shape the fate of our
world, and what it will take to build a more sustainable future.Copyright Educast Unipd

  • 3. Burning Biodiversity: Is Biodiversity Loss Making Natural Disasters Worse?
    Jun 25 2025
This podcast raises awareness on biodiversity loss and its consequences, including its role
in worsening natural disasters. It also explores what we, as humans, can do—by rethinking
our relationship with nature and shifting from Living FROM Nature to Living WITH
Nature—toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
Living from nature for centuries has led to increased biodiversity loss, which has in turn
made natural disasters such as wildfires have more severe consequences on humanity. On
the other hand, indigenous communities have used controlled wildfires as conservation
practices that led to increasing biodiversity. In this episode, we will tackle how different value
systems can influence environmental practices and aid in battling the consequences of
    wildfires and even prevent them.

  • 2. Nauru: Paradise Lost
    Jun 25 2025
Nauru was once the richest nation on Earth, thanks to vast phosphate deposits. But decades
of relentless mining led to environmental ruin and economic collapse. This episode tells the
story of how the pursuit of short-term profit destroyed a nation’s future—and offers a stark
warning about the cost of ignoring sustainability.

  • 1. Biodiversity Flooded
    Jun 25 2025
In the debut episode of Biodiversity: Behind the Buzzword, we dive into the complex issue of
invasive species and their impact on biodiversity loss. Using the blue crab invasion in the
Venice Lagoon as a case study, we examine how a single species can disrupt an entire
ecosystem. Along the way, we invite listeners to reflect on how we assign value to
nature—and how that perspective shapes our response to environmental challenges.
