• Steve and Jeff Show reviewed
    Apr 29 2024

The description of the Steve and Jeff show in Apple is, "Comedy, Improvisation, and strange, but cool interviews, are all bundled into one weekly podcast. Steve and Jeff have been friends for more than 50 years, funny since 2022. Enjoy the "Malk Show" (mock talk show) and visit www.steveandjeff.com to find out more.www.steveandjeff.com"

What we Liked About the Show

The type of humour came quickly and let you identify is "this was for you" or not. You kept that style of humor throughout the episode.

The format of conducting mock interviews with quirky, everyday characters played by local improvisers provided a fresh and engaging approach to podcasting, which Dave and Erik found both innovative and entertaining.

The long-standing friendship between Jeff and Steve translated well into their on-air chemistry, making the interactions more natural and enjoyable for listeners.

The premade mock commercials were some of the funniest parts of the show.

What WE Thought Could Be Improved

Erik mentioned that the opening of the show lacks context and structure, which can lead to confusion for new listeners who might not immediately grasp what to expect from the show.

Dave Jackson pointed out that improvements could be made to the podcast's website, especially in providing more descriptive text on the "About Us" page to enhance search engine optimization and accessibility.

Dave pointed out that having the episodes on the website could boost SEO. It allows people to sample the show before following it, and it makes it easier to share an episode.

It was recommended that a tagline or a concise description be used at the beginning of each episode to help clarify the show's content and provide immediate context to new listeners.

Some sketches seemed to drag and could benefit from concise delivery and sharper punchlines to keep the audience engaged and entertained.

Minimizing overly local references (or ensuring they are explained) could help them be more relatable to an international or non-local audience so as not to alienate listeners who might not understand specific regional humor.

incorporate more structured calls to action, both at the beginning and the end of the podcast, possibly in a humorous manner that fits the show’s theme and effectively encourages listener engagement and conversion.

    Episode Feedback
    • Great audio and a great job of talking to one person
    • Great voice over
    • Only one call to action (YAY!)
    • Could boost momentum by having the music fade in before he finishes
    • The intro is a bit redundant
    • Be sure to avoid trying to be everything to everyone
    • The episode was wide open for stories, and there weren't any
    • Give a more specific call to action to get more specific answers

    Website Feedback
    • Add some episodic artwork to break the same picture over and over
    • Update your About Page to show the show's benefits and who Ralph is.
    • A resources page with one resource could be skipped.
    • See if you can adjust the episodes so they aren't quite so tall and skinny, which requires more scrolling to see the site.

    Branding Feedback
    • As you get traction on your Sunday episodes based on faith, lean harder into that respect to make you stand out.
    • Add a tagline to your show to work some of the keywords into the title of your show.
    • Potentially adjust the open voice-over to include your experience.

  • Beyond Adversity with Dr. Brad Miller Reviewed
    May 11 2023

Dr. Brad Miller is writing a book and wanted to start building and audience so he launched the show Beyond Adversity with Dr. Brad Miller. His current description in Apple Podcasts is:

Beyond Adversity with Dr. Brad Miller is all about the belief that every person has a God-given promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose. And that you must implement a planned pathway with the proper people to quickly overcome adversity and depression to achieve that promised life. Dr. Brad Miller teaches practical strategies to defeat depression and live a life of joy as well as interviews successful people who have overcome great adversity to arrive at a place of peace, prosperity and purpose.

    His website is https://www.drbradmiller.com/

    What We Liked About It

The intro had a nice vibe with the music. You introduced the guest before the intro clip so people had the context of who he was.

You had a nice transition into the interview.

The website has a nice clean look.

    The audio sounded good.

You did a good job of promoting future episodes.

    What We Thought Needed Tweaked

You introduced the guest multiple times. Once is all we need.

Your guest somewhat ran away with the interview. Instead of making it a three-part interview, identify the key turning point, and get to that content as quickly as possible. Leave the rest on the editing room floor.

While the guest fit one of your "D's" (Depression), the stakes weren't very high in a way that made me wonder, "What is going to happen next."

Have a lead magnet for your newsletter. Give them a reason to sign up.

The audio had some "interesting timing," which you later explained was caused by a cold.

  • Metal Mayhem ROC
    Aug 9 2022
    Description

Podcast Review Show – Get Your Podcast Reviewed Weekly podcast dedicated to supporting heavy metal music in every way possible. Hosted and produced by Jon “The Vernomatic ‘’ Verno, Metal Mayhem Roc presents a blend of feature interviews with heavy metal legends and stars of tomorrow. With in house created content like ”Streaming for Vengeance”, ” Mount Rushmore of Metal” ‘Metal Confessions” and the “Business of Metal “you, the listener, is left both educated and entertained.

With an emphasis on presentation and professional industry audio imagery, Metal Mayhem ROC is your go-to source for everything metal.

    Website: https://www.metalmayhemroc.com/

    This is a Special Episode

Today Jon "THE VERNOMATIC" Vernon paid to have us listen to TWO episodes of his show. Hence there is a bit more feedback, but also, at the end of every show the guest is allowed to ask as many questions as they want (which really adds value in addition to having two consultants at the same time) and Jon had some really good questions (and we kept them in).

Also, the power went out as we were recording you won't hear Erik or Jon at the end.

What We Liked About This Episodes

Jon has just the right amount of energy on the microphone.

Dave loved the trivia that had him learning new things.

You all have passion for the subject.

You did a great job of introducing the panel and getting to the topic

The intro leaves no doubt that this is a Metal show

The tease at the end of the show really left us wanting more.

Erik found the story of the upstart record label fascinating.

The artwork on the website is amazing.

What We Thought Could Use Some Polishing

On the interview show, your tease gave away the whole story

There was some tapping on the table(?) and of course, Dave caught the popping P's and ums.

Dave found some of the details about the bands that he didn't know and didn't get to hear dull.

The recap episode, it was very much like a Wikipedia entry. There are facts but no personality

Make your "blog" into the "listen" part of your website and embed the player from your media host. When you force feed people into an app (Spotify) that can rub people the wrong way. Embed a spotify player in the blog posts (making them "episodes) and then have links to subscribe to Apple, Spotify, Google, and Amazon in each episode (and maybe a page on your website to make it simple)

There are times when you sound like you're doing radio (group speak, "Hey everybody") when people don't listen in groups. They listen in the car or in earbuds, etc. "Thanks for listening, I'm so glad you're here (singular).

Inject your personalities into the show. Look at that Metal Show on VH1 Classic where they would have to compile a list. This pulls the audience in as they try to decide if they agree with you or not. You can do this without turning into endless arguments. Jon mentioned you had a timer.

    May 20 2022

Today we are looking at the Skeptic Metaphysicians. Their description is, "Like Mulder from the X-Files, we want to believe. So we've embarked on a journey of discovery. We've talked to people deeply entrenched in the spiritual, metaphysical, mental health and self-help worlds. We've thrown ourselves into weird and wonderful experiences, and we're sharing them with you in an effort to find the trick to self-growth. Whether your interests lie in the metaphysical or the spiritual or even grounded in the three-dimensional world, this show will help you explore the endless possibilities of self-growth....tinged with a hint of the supernatural. New episodes every Wednesday!

Check out their website at www.skepticmetaphysician.com

What We Liked About the Show
    • Some really good questions were asked
    • You did a GREAT job of being skeptical without being cynical (a very safe space)
    • You didn't interrupt the guest when they were in the thick of a story
    • We loved your description of the show
    • You did a great job of stepping into the shoes of your guest.
    • You take the show seriously but still kept it light.
    • The website looks great using Podpage
    • Your "final" answer showed vulnerability and was amazing.
    • Great job explaining the roles (scientist) of the people involved.
    • The podcast sounds great.

    What We Thought Needed Tweaked
    • We loved your description, but it took a little long to get to that description
    • Who is Karen? (neither the episode or the website answered this question).
    • You (in some cases) ask a question and add a description/backstory. Flip the content around and set up the question and ask the question last (so the guest hears the question last).
    • Don't forget to use people's names when you have multiple hosts.
    • Get comfortable with awkward pauses
    • Use one call to action (and rotate if needed).
    • FYI, ratings and reviews do not help you be found in Apple (social proof only)
    • Do not refer to the listener as "listeners."

    Live Well and Flourish

If you’re ready to think beyond material and external success, if you’re ready to take control of who you are and the kind of life you live, if you’re ready to flourish, this podcast is for you. The topics I cover help you understand what it means to live a flourishing life, a life of meaning, satisfaction, and enduring happiness.

    Check it out at www.livewellandflourish.com

What We Liked About the Show
    • The intro is great that lets you know where you're going along with the warm of a campfire in the cabin
    • Craig does a little housekeeping, but its short
    • Some great stories about losing weight
    • Any "fancy" words were explained
    • Instead of reading someone's bio, you explained why they were important and stuck to the facts that were relevant to the audience.
    • The website uses Podpage (learn podpage at www.learnpodpage.com ) and has a great layout
    • Craig had the best ending EVER on this show. One, a completely clear call to action.
    • Great length. You said what you needed to say, and left.
    • The "three things" is a great way to summarize the episode.
    • Audio sounded great, and the musical branding was nice.

What We Thought Might Need Some Tweaking
    • Craig scripts this show and for 90% of it, his reading is fine, but at times we need a little more smile, and some pauses.
    • Some of the color choices on the website make it slightly hard to read in some places.
    • Craig's old branding is on his mastodon community.
    • Add a few more stories when you make a point (if possible)
    • Maybe add a "so that you can" to the intro
    • Potentially add a specific question, "Have you ever done a little thing that ended up with big results? I'd love to read or play it on the show.

  • 8th Layer Insights Review
    Mar 30 2022

Today we are joined by Perry Carpenter from the 8th Layer Insights podcast.

Description: Get ready for a deep dive into what cybersecurity professionals often refer to as the "8th Layer" of security: HUMANS. Welcome to 8th Layer Insights (8Li). This podcast is a multidisciplinary exploration into how the complexities of human nature affect security and risk. Author, security researcher, and behavior science enthusiast Perry Carpenter taps experts for their insights and illumination. Topics include cybersecurity, psychology, behavior science, communication, leadership, and more

    Website: https://8thlayerinsights.com/

    Things You're Doing Correct
    • The audio production is amazing.
    • The sidekick of "Carl" was creative
    • Asked some really good questions and stayed out of the guest's way.
    • As the episode isn't super long, the summaries at the end of a point signaled you were moving on to a new point.
    • Loved the insights and vulnerability
    • The website is clean and very useful
    • Very well put together

Things That Might Need Some Buffering
    • The show needs an intro to explain "Here is what we do here." You explain it later in the show. I would move it to the beginning of the show. The description really suggests a name change. Start with the end in mind, and look at who hires you to speak? If you're trying to spotlight soft skills, then tie them back to cyber security.
    • The name is somewhat inside baseball. Maybe add a tagline to make it easier to get found
    • I would’ve added a link to the sponsor and the steve king book in your show notes. I totally missed it in the sidebar.
    • You have a lot of voices and from time to time we're not sure who said what. They all sounded different but we forget who is who.
