Sarah Bessey was in her sweet spot: a popular author, sought-after speaker and preacher, and an active and engaged mother of four, married to the love of her life. Raised within the Word of Faith and prosperity movements, which declared that obedience to God led to untold blessings, her life seemed to prove the preachers of her childhood were right. Then she was in a car accident with life-shattering consequences, and everything she thought she knew about God and faith was upended. Sarah tells us the whole story of the car accident that changed her body and changed her life.

Histoire
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

How the Bible Actually Works makes clear that there is no one right way to read or listen to the Bible. Moving us beyond the damaging idea that “being right” is the most important measure of faith, Enns’ freeing approach to Bible study helps us to instead focus on pursuing enlightenment and building our relationship with God - which is exactly what the Bible was designed to do.

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

Histoire
For years, Christians have been asking, "If you died tonight, do you know where you would go?" It turns out that many believers have been giving the wrong answer. It is not heaven. Wright outlines the present confusion about a Christian's future hope and shows how it is deeply intertwined with how we live today. Wright asserts that Christianity's most distinctive idea is bodily resurrection, and provides a magisterial defense for a literal resurrection of Jesus. Wright then explores our expectation of "new heavens and a new earth".

Histoire
As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, he’d been taught, condemned gay relationships. Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Histoire
We are at a strategic cultural intersection with relationships between women and men eroding. While it is good for women to expose their pain, abuse, and experiences of gender inequity and oppression, what often follows is a never-ending cycle of blame, accusations, denial, avoidance, and, ultimately, devastation for everyone involved. Better Together is a beacon of hope in this challenging storm. Author Danielle Strickland offers practical steps toward a real and workable solution.
Description
For centuries, the role of women in the Church has been a subdued one, with many limitations. The time has come, argues Sarah Bessey-who has been called an "accidental grassroots voice for postmodern and progressive evangelical women"- to take a new look at Scripture and challenge old assumptions. In Jesus Feminist, Bessey shares her spiritual journey, which ranges from growing up in a post–gender-debate home to learning about the worldwide struggles of women and the obstacles even a well-meaning church can pose. Through disarmingly intimate storytelling, she tells how she grew to understand the story of God and the vastness of his work through women. Never one to shy away from the hard questions, Bessey engages critically with Scripture and church practices that are often used against full equality and shares how following Jesus made a feminist out of her.Filled with beauty, hard truth, and brave vulnerability, Jesus Feminist urges the Church to stop asking "man or woman" as a qualification for ministry and to start helping everyone find freedom in the fullness, hope, glory, and work of Christ.

Sad that some churches keep women down. Totally not God's plan. Understanding Jewish 1st Century culture changes a lot. Joe Amaral's books and teachings helped me to see how much Jesus and Paul were pro women in ministry! #Audible1

Love the book; HATE the reader.
I own this book and purchased the audiobook to re-read it while driving for work. I so wish the author had read this. The woman who does read it is annoying to listen to and made me sad I wasted a credit on it. Buy and read the book on your own.

A healing balm for the wounds of Christian women
I really enjoyed this book and I even listened to certain chapters twice. The narrator was very annoying and in the beginning of the book it seemed like she was trying to sound like a Victorian period actress.

Kind but firm
I wanted someone to validate me as a feminist, to be angry and smash the patriarchy with me and Jesus. But this book is so much more than that. It is about how to be all that we are called to be as daughters and wives and servants of Jesus, and to stand up for what is right with love. It was so tender I was kind of "eww" at first but the prose began to resonate with me more and more as I listened.

Very Thought Provoking
I couldn't press pause. The narration was perfect with inflection and voice. The book covered and exposed territory I did not expect. I listen to and read several Christian writers but I was compelled by this particular writer to not only listen but hear and then put feet to the emotion, action to the call. Blessed.

Wow. What a book.
I picked this title up off my sister’s night stand thinking it was some sort of joke. NO JOKE HERE, my friends. This book is the real deal. From the very first chapter my curiosity was piqued. The more I listened, the more I began to understand the perspective of the author and the more I began to agree with her. I think this book should be a must-read for 21st Century believers...especially young people. It was fantastic. #biblicalwomanhood #christianitytoday #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Great read
Well written. Message clearly expressed through the use of both biblical anecdotes, and personal experiences. Though clearly written for women, it is a call for both genders to live in love and justice.
