Publisher's Summary

A retired group of legendary mercenaries get the band back together for one last impossible mission in this award-winning debut epic fantasy.

Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best, the most feared and renowned crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.

Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk, or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help - the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for. It's time to get the band back together.

pretty good, not great not terrible.

it's like R.E.D. but for D and D. one liners and " we're getting to old for this shit". Narrator so so with a story that starts to flag at the end. worth a listen though

A must-read for any Fantasy lover

The story is like an incredible combination of the movie RED (Retired, Extremely Dangerous) and a crazy college Dungeons and Dragons session. The tone, a hillarious combination of the writing style of Joe Abercrombie and Monty Python.

The book inspires scenes of incredible awe and gut busting comedy, sometimes dancing on the line of going over the top, yet miraculously maintains a strong heart and manages to be surprisingly moving.

If you are a fan of the fantasy genre, I cannot recommend this book strongly enough.

Fantastic

Such a fun book and a great narration. The voices gave it a real Lynrd Skynyrd vibe. I enjoyed it the whole way through.

The Boys are Back

It's like you're sitting at a table with an old man while he tells you a story. There's goblins and centaurs, kobolds and ettin, oh and a dragon. Kings of the Wyld is a great fantasy adventure read, following a bunch of old men reliving the "old days." The narrator is fantastic as well, would recommend.

An absolute blast form start to finish.

It reminded me of the good old pen and paper D&D and that's not a bad thing at all.

The narrator was spot on as was the humour. I highly recommend this book for anyone who's looking for a fun adventure filled with thrills and chills.

I couldn't stop smiling and I found myself laughing out loud as I burned though the audio in a week.

What are you waiting for? The band is back together.! 😀

A Great Book about older Adventurers

First of all, this book is amazing. One of the best that I've read in a long time. It tells the story of Clay who is a middle aged, retired adventurer who had amazing adventures with his band in his prime and then he settled down with a wife and family. His friend and former bandmate approaches Clay to ask for help save his daughter, and they start to try to get the band back together for one last adventure.

There's some satire here, where the author is making fun of parts of our world, while still telling a compelling story in his, which brings to mind the late Terry Pratchett. Definitely darker in tone, but with some of the same whimsy.

It sounds corny and like it will be full of so many tired tropes. And it has some of those. But at its core this is a compelling story told by an older man who is at the same time brave, yet tired, with realistic feelings of responsibilities for his family, but who can't talk himself out of doing the right thing. The characters have depth in the way that people do as they get older.

Highly recommended for Gen-Xers and other longstanding fans of the fantasy genre.
