Description

Runner and company have safely left the city ahead of the siege. Completing their class promotions with barely any time to spare.

Unfortunately Runner hasn't discovered the password he needs to begin the logoff process to save the 400,000 or so crewmates left alive in this game where dying truly means death.

The game continues to shift and change with each day and as a byproduct of Runner's actions.

Not only do the rules change, but those he's with have changed. No longer simple programs, they have reached actual sentience.

Pressing himself ever onwards to learn more about the world he finds himself surprised at every turn.

On top of navigating the ever changing game, the outside world has contacted him directly. Now he has to begin to navigate the situation as a gamer, IT support, and an officer.

Of course this would all be a lot easier if he hadn't gotten captured within a few hours of leaving Crivel.

Fate seems to be stacking the deck against him as quickly as she can this time around.

Great follow up to book one

So many times, book two of a series is a bit of a let down. And 95% of the time book two will leave u hanging without wrapping anything up. Not This Book! It wrapped up a few details and somehow found the perfect balance between fulfillment and wanting more. I can't wait to read the third and I think last of this series.

Disappointing sequel

First book was ok, this one begins a slide towards the crappy soft core porno that is book 3. There’s still some plot and interest in book 2, but it isn’t worth listening to especially when book 3 is so bad. Give it a miss and find a better series.

Too much wish fulfillment

The selfless hero trilogy? This guy is far from selfless. Without spoiling the story, let's just say he screws over hundreds of thousands to protect what he cares about. That is like the definition of selfish. Maybe the title is meant to be ironic, but I don't think so. Besides that, too much endless flirting and lovey dovey talk. It honestly gets nauseating. The whole thing starts to read like bad fan fiction. The performances are great, which the only glowing praise I can offer this franchise

Otherlife Nightmares: The Selfless Hero Trilogy

As an avid reader and player of CRPG's for over forty years, I find the litrpg genre a natural extension of two of my main hobbies.I really enjoyed the first book, but the second book, not so much.I have often pondered the question of artificial consciousness (AC), also known as machine consciousness (MC), and enjoy books that address this question.I was surprised, having thought myself well read, that there is a " Harem Genre ", and what was implicit in the first book is explicit in the second.this detracted greatly from any enjoyment derived from the book.It is so off-putting, that I lowered my rating from four, to three stars. I seldom read two books of a trilogy without reading the third, but the unwanted harem tropes make it a close call.

Finally!

Ahh wonderful. Another fantastic title after a very appealing first book, with furthered character development and some back stories and world building. Nicely balancing the plot threads started earlier. It's finally dawning on me how strange it is to listen to a guy voicing a whole cast and getting you to believe and recognize everyone. It gets a little stretched with the growing cast at times but there are some pretty beautiful women's voices. That's just kinda badass and interesting on it's own. Loved the character direction. Would love some notice before the next one comes out in case I don't save my credits correctly.

Possibly a Parody?

I can’t tell if this series is meant to be taken seriously or if it is some kind of parody à la Tom Holt. It reads like a 15yr old boy’s version of a cheesy fantasy romance novel. If you are a 15yr old boy, you will surely love it. If not, you may find it either amusing or offensive because it gets pretty ridiculous. Even more so than the first book. I found it mostly amusing but I’m not sure that was the author’s intention. The female characters are especially unbelievable. Either the author has never met a real female and has no idea how they would act and react or they are meant to be unbelievable because they are only NPCs and therefore not real. Who knows which. No amount of charisma would make this many females so stupid and I sincerely hope that no grown men would be so immature. The virtual reality part of the story line still kept me interested but since Runner can now turn off death in the game, why doesn’t he just do so? Wouldn’t that solve the biggest part of the problem immediately, giving him more time to figure out how to get everyone out? This is not explained. The saving grace here is the narrator, who is excellent. He gives these cartoonish characters a bit of life, giving each a unique voice and somehow keeping them all straight. He is quite good with both sexes, never sounding awkward. I suspect the narrator is the main reason I chose to listen the second book. I need to see what else he has done.

Such passion in the book

The book was great and so was the narration. I felt times I wanted to laugh and times I wanted to cry. it is a relatively short audiobook as well, and yet seemed so full I thought it felt twice as long.
