Description

As the conflict between Enosh and Damasca builds to war, Simon finds himself caught in the middle.

Alin is bound by prophecy to the Grandmasters of Enosh, but he begins to doubt his fate when he discovers that their talk of freedom hides a darker agenda.

Leah has never questioned her loyalty to Damasca. Now, she finds that allegiance tested as she is forced to oppose her own rebellious brother.

With these two powers on the brink of open war, the land soon trembles in the face of an even greater threat.

Quality over quantity

These books are very well written. Foremost for the accurate reflection of evil with good and vise versa.
Though the books aren’t long, the depth of quality and richness of the characters and story make it feel like you’ve read a legitimate epic. Definitely a departure from the status quo of shallow motivations and pedantic plots.
Specifically, the Crimson vault is an awesome culmination of the events in the first book and new trials looming to be resolved in the final book of the trilogy.
Information in the Crimson vault actualizes the protagonists and sheds some light upon the true antagonists.

Exemplary Second Book Of Three

Chris Wight continues his fascinating worldbuilding - consolidating the "Traveller"/"Territory" magic paradigm and expanding other elements of his imaginative fantasy reality (we learn much more about the "Hanging Trees" and "Incarnations" in this book, for example). This installment also builds on the war between "Enosh" and "Damaska".. teasing what promises to be an EPIC decisive battle.
The commendable dialogue, prose/vocabulary, and description from the first book continues.. plus this story is satisfyingly action-heavy (and noticeably less unnecessarily gory than Book One).

Well done, Mr. Wight.

Less fortunately, Wight sets up alliances, counteralliances, rivalries, duplicity, and straight-up treason.. to the point that it is, indeed, hard to tell who is "good" and who is "bad" in this book (one reviewer is spot-on pointing out the confusion). In addition, the pacing is again subpar - with loooong stretches of inconsequential character development and "why is this here?" court intrigue between the thrilling magical combat scenes.
Still, 'The Crimson Vault' is a solid continuation.

Reader Travis Baldree again turns in an excellent performance: the voice-acting is a little overstated at times - but Baldree exhibits great diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing.. and unparalleled interested tone. The result is imperfect but definitely cinematic.

Altogether, this 8.5/10 star audiobook is a brilliantly entertaining fantasy novel. True, you really need to read 'The Traveler's Gate Trilogy' books in order (listen to 'House Of Blades' first) - but Book Two is a rollercoaster-ride distraction.
I am frankly thrilled that I could listen to this recording as a 'Plus' selection. Even if Audible asked for a Credit, it would be worth it.
