Description

Pirateaba returns once again, bringing you the thrilling fifth installment of chart-topping LitRPG series The Wandering Inn.

Kings awake, and emperors build new lands. Change is coming to the world, from the King of Destruction moving to a certain doctor finding more friends from home.

The Wandering Inn has a princess who solves problems rather than creates them, and her name is Lyonette. Yet what happens when the innkeeper returns to manage her inn? Lyonette must learn to be a good employee rather than manage everything herself, and sharing power is never easy...

Nor is it ever simple in war, but that is where Geneva Scala remains. In bloodier and increasingly brutal battlefields, The Last Light of Baleros is now growing in fame, but there is no future there. She is desperate, working against hostile forces who see her intervention as dangerous, and still bears the wounds of her previous war to save lives. But she is no longer alone.

Engaging story.

I would recommend the series, you fall in love with all the vastly different characters over time. Different stories but all woven together. I look forward to reading/listening the next in the series.

My thoughts

This novel and the series as a whole has been a joy to listen to.The narrator is so solid in their a ability and skill that the story came alive hour after hour of listening. The story gives much to the listener and this book like the others before it in the series is a gem of value and entertainment worth the price without any doubt.

better and better

This series keeps getting better and better. Character growth steadily advances at an emotional pace. The ups are sky high and the lows scrape the very depth of the Reader's heart.

keeps impressing

How in the world does this writer continue to do so well in her 6th book?! Its absolutely incredible. She doesnt do cheap satisfaction, instead serves it up in small deliberate courses through out the entire novel over and over again.

Usually in novels there are a couple of characters I am happy to follow but in this book its every single one. Every single MC is a refreshing drink that you dont even need as I crave for more of every diverging path that is written.

THANK YOU FOR THE HOURS AND HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT YOURE INCREDIBLE

Many parts slow progress

Erin sounds like lots of effort and should probably have died ten times more than those that die in her place. She is the walking definition of dumb luck and idiot savant. Riyoka appears to be the more paranoid version, with a great memory, and control motivate impulse issues. In each case, they are both trying to get themselves killed because of their lack of self control and emotional disconnects. Just weld them together and I expect the ehole mess will be resolved in one book.

Book 1 through 5 are really good, can't wait for 6

The Narration is excellent.
Book 5 fleshes out a lot of the side stories and I am eager to see how or if they ever converge.
I imagine they will all get together somehow and save everyone.

Sad, Happy, Imagining and hopeful, these are just a few of emotions I feel when listening to a great book series.

most books lose my interest quickly, I went practically non stop except for sleep to get to to the end of Book 5.
Has there been a Book 6 ready my brain would have exploded, Thank Goodness I can get back to normal for just for a little while.

Wow, just Wow!

First of all, this is not great fiction. Its a serial that Pirateaba is writing quickly. I'm not giving it five stars and saying this is as good as Name of the Wind or Dawn of Wonder. For what it is though (a novel based strongly upon MMORPG)... this series is just great.

Pirateaba is developing as an author. You can see character nuance growing from book one to book five. Its almost shocking how well Pirateaba is able to pull in the average reader & engross them in mundane pages on trudging water up a hill or wiping down tables. I could read Pirateaba talking about this all day.

Where Pirateaba is killing it in this book 5 is when she starts looking at what makes up a character she is developing. The world of the Wandering Inn is complex. There have to be over a dozen primary characters here. All are unique. The struggles they are overcoming are vastly entertaining.

Where I think Pirate Aba falters is when she starts introducing new characters. Like the first five chapters of this book. Its hard to jump in and get to know Pirateabas characters is what Im trying to say.

All five of these books are well worth the 5 credits.

First "king" chapters are just... skip'n nxt 3hrs

I'm about 4.5 hours in to the book, and I'm almost tempted to return the book right now. I'd rather wait in line at the DMV than finish this section. If I skip ahead another 5 hours, and just opt out of this thread of the story, what's the harm? I mean, I see chapters in the contents about Toren, Magnolia, Liscor, that walking dead MD, and our favorite blind guy ...and I want to find out what happens to them, but I just can't even anymore with this King of Destruction story line.

First 7 hours are tough but I enjoyed the rest.

Ooooof, I’m only 8 hours into this and I’m questioning if I want to continue the book hasn’t even touched base with Erin yet. The last book was tough to get through because of so much time spent on characters I don’t care about and this one is shaping up the same.
Update: Just after I wrote this review the whole story moved away from Floss and back to Erin, the rest of the book was very compelling and focused heavily on Erin / the in. I enjoyed it and would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the other books.

Good... But Is Painful in Places

I have enjoyed each book in this series. This one included. However some characters are painful to follow.

For instance a certain Runner Girl who is too dumb to tell anybody about the threats in their midst. She always acts like everything is on her shoulders. Then people die because she is so self centered. Information is key. If nobody knows the truth how can they help.

Then there is Floss. I can understand why people follow him. He is a very charismatic leader. However he is nothing but a destroyer. King of Destruction indeed. His goal for the future is??? Life is better on the other side of the next hill. So we should destroy all resistance in the way and conquer until there are no greener pastures left to find. Absolute Lunacy.

Floss me off this mortal coil

Still in progress but wanted to give people who are on the fence something to go off of before the holidays (review not rating, it's not yet earned more than 2 stars). I'm about 10 hours in and let me tell you, I'm hoping Fortnight over here flosses his way off the mortal coil, that he gets be-Trey-ed, when I relistened to the first books I skipped his parts and will 100% never listen to these 10 hours again.

Floss never has felt like a very strong character to me and this section reaffirms it, as he confirmed he's useless when it comes to literally any part of ruling his nation. He straight up says he's shoving off the work on his subordinates without a thank you or a please, yet somehow he stops for 2 decades and all the work he was already not doing stops being done. Unless he did more then stop and instead threw a tantrum and gave orders designed to make a whole continent fail then things probably wouldn't have got so bad between the literal host of talented people he foists extra work upon.

There's little of the charm that made me love this series in the first fifth of the book. Aaron's not cleaning with literal acid or talking about Gnoll anatomy, Ryoka isn't cursing at beings of immense power, The Horny crew isn't going insane and stabbing one another. It's literally just a guy who punch real gud in a situation that the only situation where I can even slightly believe in is if it was explained his skill was actually a form of mind control parasite that got stronger with proximity to him, he didn't actually know that, and he also thought he was in a shonen anime.

The series finds another gear

These storylines are the beginning of where this epic fantasy becomes truly epic, and the author evolves from good to great.
