Description

While the crew of the UN Expeditionary Force's pirate starship Flying Dutchman are enjoying a luxury vacation cruise (not!), UNEF troops are still stranded on an alien-controlled planet. Major Emily Perkins and her team are busy picking up the pieces, and it's not easy, because there is trouble on Paradise....

Great interim addition to the series

Great listen but all too short. Looking forward to the next full instalment and the menu adventures with Joe and Skippy the Magnificent.

Good but not worth the price

Quite enjoyable! However it was quite expensive for such a short book, and having listened to the main books first, this book is not necessary. But that doesn’t diminish the fact that it’s quite a good book!
Does make me miss skippy though!

Terrific

I was worried when I saw the duration and half step nature of the title that it might just be an exposition filler. I was pleasantly surprised. Though void of the flying Dutchman and the crew we're used to, the book is a fully fledged story in its own right and kept me thoroughly amused from start to finish.

No Skippy :(

Craig Alanson proves once again that he can produce an excellent work. However, the absense of Skippy in this novela, while obviously necessary as a side story, loses the book a star for the story to make it fair by comparison.

Don't skip this book

Great short book, worth getting and a lot of fun! Now apparently I need 15 words.

Great little side story

The story and performance were both amazing. I just wish the price was a little more reasonable.

Poor language more common each book.

Such a good story line that I have really enjoyed imagining what things are like in the universe. Very sad to see more and more f-bombs creeping into each book. First book was easiest to listen to with my grandkids listening in with no worry that an f-bomb was going to come out of the speakers. Now I’m not sure. You are a very good writer with a very strong vocabulary. Please don’t think you have add the lower vocabulary words to be realistic. I hope I can continue with the next books.

Should have been part of Book 3

Craig Alanson, please don't do this again. Don't take a side story, break it out and charge too much for it. This "book" should have been part of "Paradise." Did I enjoy this entry? Of course. It had RC Bray as narrator and Craig Alanson as its parent. But really, this feels like a wallet-grab. Craig, you have loyal followers. Don't gouge them or they will be less loyal.

As for the story, a nice subplot in the ongoing saga. Not up to the Joe/Skippy narrative, but good nevertheless. Neither Skippy or Joe are in think even. RC Bray is magnificent, as usual. And with this entry we flesh out more of the secondary characters. Perhaps knowing them better will become important in a future installment. I hope so.

Im still a fan. i just wish i didn't feel so dirty.

If you haven't read books 1-3, don't start here. But if you have read them, and you have splurge money, then go ahead.

But this felt like some editor or agent might have said: Take this side story out and repackage it as a standalone. You'll be able to sell it for a quick extra $20. Short-term strategy. Disrespectful to your fans. I'm pissed off that I paid $20+ for this "installment." Maybe $5.95. Really, should have been part of the Paradise book.

And yes, I'll buy the next bull-length installment. I love Col. Joe and Skippy.

1/2 Book for Full Price... I Felt Cheated

This is a new story arc, so I was barely able to get into it before it ended. While I knew that it was going to be a shortened book, I couldn't believe it when it ended after only 5 hours. I don't mind cliffhangers, but this one felt like it stopped at chapter 3. It felt like I got only 1/2 the book, but paid full price. Really frustrated at that.

Waste of a credit

I've enjoyed the series but this was nothing more than a gimmick. The plot with Joe and Skippy wasn't furthered at all and the book didn't even finish. There were several instances where it seemed the author rushed the story to meet a deadline. Author and publishers owe fans more. I just feel taken advantage of and won't be listening further.

It's not like the others

I loved the other books. This I really did not enjoy the story at all. The author is amazing so I don't want to take way from him but it's not worth the credit

No Skippy or Bishop

I primarily like this series because of the dynamic interaction between Joe Bishop and the AI, Skippy. Neither made an appearance in this novella. I just couldn't get interested in this minor character backstory.

Short story not a book

I love the story, disappointed this wasn't part of book 3. It should have been, felt too rushed and incomplete. One aspect of the series I enjoy, it makes me think (folding time space) I can see a story developing around Skippy where he could be anything from just an AI to a sentinel to an Elder's consciousness. Wonderful possibilities. While the story of Paradise needed told, it should have been part of book 3.

Half the length, half a book, at full price.

Imagine my surprise when this $21 5hr 48m book is introduced as "Epiditionary Force, book 3.5", it certainly wasn't half price.
