Publisher's Summary

In the vein of Lebowitz's acclaimed Netflix limited series, Pretend It's a CityThe Fran Lebowitz Reader brings together two of the famed author's bestsellers, Metropolitan Life and Social Studies.

In "elegant, finely honed prose" (The Washington Post Book World), Lebowitz limns the vicissitudes of contemporary urban life—its fads, trends, crazes, morals, and fashions. By turns ironic, facetious, deadpan, sarcastic, wry, wisecracking, and waggish, Fran Lebowitz is always wickedly entertaining.

Absolutely hilarious!

Yes, it’s terribly out of date, and shocking to remember what life and humour was like in those days, but Ms. Leibowitz’s view is so funny and honest, it makes me glad to think there is at least one American who can see clearly and make intelligent comedy out of it all. Bravo ! Loved every word.

Not what I expected.

I was so excited to listen to Fran read her book. It was very monotone. There was no inflection in her voice. Reading the one liners was like eating paste. I still love her but won't pay for audio to listen to her drone on.
