A Delightful Stroll through Longmeadow

Monty offers a wealth of information to new gardeners, and an engaging review for pros. His narration is relaxing and conversational, and does not lecture. The true delight of "Down to Earth" is how it evokes the feeling of a long walk through Longmeadow with Monty.

Wonderful, whimsical and wise.

What a most pleasing listen during rather unpleasant times. Listening to Monty himself describe vibrant scenes within his own garden is both educational and soothing. I very much recommend purchasing, whether you are an experienced gardener, a novice, or someone simply looking to escape to a lush garden for some time through Monty's delightful and passionate imagery.

Quite the loveliest listening experience.

I loved the book and the narration by author. I'll be listening again while I potter in my garden.

I loved this book.

I decided to follow up on Monty Don after watch Big Dreams Small Spaces on Netflix. Great audible book with lots of ideas and useful info. One things that was very distracting was the "lip smacking" after most sentences. I don't know if a filter of some sort would have helped but really was off-putting. His voice is very soothing while he was reading though. Wonderful book to listen to while gardening! I have listened at least 3 times through.

Packed Full of Knowledge

I bought this after reading his book "Nigel". That book is a story book. Charming snippets of his life with animals which are truly reminiscent of the James Herriot style. I thought this book was going to be similar and be stories of the garden. Not so. This is definitely a "how to" book. At first I was disappointed. I wanted the "story" aspect present in "Nigel". That said, I quickly changed my mind and became hooked. Monty has a charming and evocative speech pattern which is absolutely charming to listen to. Couple that with his very casual and real approach to gardening, and you have a winner. Monty is a true proponent of the Organic Garden and Wildlife BUT puts no stress onto the gardener. The ultimate message is enjoy the try; it will all come right eventually. I have listened to it now four times in a row. Really not hard to do. I am really trying to transfer all that wealth of knowledge into my poor brain. As I potter round my garden with my dogs tagging along, I am joined by this friendly voice hinting and guiding me through all the perils and joys of garden. If you enjoy gardening, then this book holds a tomb of knowledge that is hard to find elsewhere. Remember that Monty lives in UK, so be prepared to adjust planting times appropriately for your zone.

Full of Information, minimally political

I listened to this all the way through in about 3 days. It is completely practical and I didn't feel like I was being prosteletized by environmental ists pushing a debateable agenda. - (although he does mention climate change frequently) Thank you!

A philosophical view designed for the experienced.

It might be this is a bad title for an Audible book, but the love of Gardening and the spiritual side to it all was all I really got out of this informationally. Quie boring from the listener's point of view. The voice was very good, British work..

Beautiful journey through the garden all year

Very well written. Flows of information and timing of you garden so well that you can visualize it as the story goes on. The amount of information is a good measure. So keeping a note pad handy is ideal. This one gets you very connected with the natural world and progressions of them. Must have garden book.
