Publisher's Summary

Add years to your life and life to your years with number one New York Times best-selling author Dr. Joel Fuhrman's no-nonsense, results-driven nutrition plan that will help you look and feel your best inside and out.

Eat for Life is the first book to showcase Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s Nutritarian Diet in full - the most practical, balanced, and focused way to eat, lose weight, and live longer. Emphasizing high-nutrient, whole plant foods that supply abundant amounts of micronutrients, it can broken down into a simple equation: H = N/C. Or, Health = Nutrient intake per Calorie consumed.

Most Americans are deficient in micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and consume too many macronutrients (calories). Natural, colorful plant foods contain the largest assortment of micronutrients, including anti-cancer phytochemicals. When consumed in large quantities every day, these plant foods are proven to decrease cravings, reverse the symptoms of nearly every disease, and maintain ideal weight. The Nutrarian Diet helps you shed more pounds, reach lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels, reverse diabetes better, and reduce hunger and cravings more than any other program available.

Combining Dr. Fuhrman’s wise food and lifestyle advice with his famously straightforward, practical recipes, Eat for Life is a daily guide to eating well, a healthy cookbook and meal plan, and a blunt kick-in-the-butt to help you take control of your health destiny. All people - sick or healthy, overweight or slim, young or old - can benefit from this plan. Eat for Life will help our bodies to thrive and experience a modern miracle: a long, disease-free life without heart disease, strokes, dementia, or even cancer.

Great book, but a bit hard to follow sometimes

Joel Fuhrman has a lot of great knowledge and experience in this topic. The book really has tones of great information about the optimal diet for a healthy living especially if you're starting from a stage where you already have some chronic illnesses. I love how there are many anecdotes and testimonials of patients whose life got better. My only critic is that there are many parts of the book where I found it hard to follow. There are a lot of technical terms that are thrown around that I didn't understand. Maybe its because I don't have any background in health science, but I've listened to other books with more technical information like The China Study by Collin Campbell and I didn't have any difficulties going through that one.

Live Healthfully and Thrive

Read this book and save your life while you're still alive (because most people die before they try). That also means to live better and do more things as you age naturally. Stop your body from deteriorating due to the health harming foods you consume (but don't yet know about). Wanna live and love life to the very end? Add this book to your arsenal of disease fighting must haves!

Terrible reading. Poor pronunciations.

Terrible reading. Poor pronunciations. I typically "eat up" books like this and really get a lot out of them. I was so looking forward to listening to this one but just couln't finish and had to stop in the middle of chapter 5.

Dr. Fuhrman should have read this, or at the very least made sure pronunciations were correct. Some words seems so difficult for the reader to pronouce it was painful to listen.

To say Estrogen causes cancer is a terrible injustice to women. Please read Estrogen Matters to learn the truth.

Having said this, I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Fuhrman and have enjoyed and learned a lot from many of his other books. This one is a total dissapointment. At least for me.

The End of Suffering!

This book is the most comprehensive book yet by Dr Joel Fuhrman. He addresses all chronic disease and the innate ability of the body to heal when given a diet of high micro nutrient density foods in an environment of moderate caloric restriction. The good news is you don’t have to count calories. Calories are automatically reduced when you eat a Nutritarian diet. He explains in great detail the impact of the Standard American Diet on our nation’s health and how to prevent and/or reverse disease. He addresses processed food addiction, the impact on the brain, and how to resolve toxic hunger to avoid the desire to continually overeat. The testimonials are AMAZING! Doctors of patients were even amazed at what a Nutritarian diet can do to reverse disease. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is serious about obtaining optimal health through excellent nutrition.

A Dr. Fuhrman summary

This book summarized everything Dr. Fuhrman believes really well, including some new updates and recommendations! I plan on implementing a lot of the suggestions in it. I agree with others though that the narrator should have been Dr. Fuhrman himself. The reader for this book made so many pronunciation errors, some made me laugh out loud! But it doesn’t take away from the amazing info in the book. Also I loved the testimonials, they were very motivating.

Drones on and on, without purpose.

The first 7 chapters drone on and on about why you should be listening to the book.
Their is barely some value to the 8th chapter.

it's 9 hrs of your life that you'll never get back.

Eat To Live Part 2

This book has a lot of useful information in it. it really feels like Eat To Live Part 2 to me. the narrator did a great job also. he pronounced a few words a little different from how I hear Dr. Joel Fuhrman pronounce them but it wasn't a big deal at all. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for some insight to why a plant based diet is a great choice.

Too much research to deny the information

I have been researching diet and health for about 10 years and had run across Dr. Fuhrman's information previously but just wasn't ready to hear the truth previously. The book is absolutely clear about what is needed for vibrant health. My only objection to this book was the repetitiveness from chapter to chapter. I think it could have been about 1/3 shorter. On the other hand, some people will only listen to the parts that they are interested in and, thereby, miss the full picture. The biggest distraction was the narrator's lack of familiarity with the material. He mispronounced multiple words repeatedly and mis-emphasized or paused inappropriately for the flow of the book. The best part of the recording was the introduction that Dr. Fuhrman recorded himself. He is clearly dedicated and knowledgeable, an outstanding combination.

Helpful. Life Changing. Doable.

Love the updates!
I am a Hawaiian women living in Honolulu who was raised to believe that my obesity was due to my ethnic background.
I had just finished listening to Dr. Furhman's book "Eat To Live" and have been living as a nutritarian for 20 days now... then I saw that this book is one of Dr. Fuhrman's staff favorites (I can see why!).
In 17 days I had already lost 12 pounds. This book helped me to sharpen my knowledge and answered questions such as what exact supplements to take and why. Yesterday was my first dose of B12, today I literally ran and couldn't keep up with myself haha!! I have so much good energy.
This book is a must listen/must do - if you are interested in bettering your body and mind.
I had no known health issues but God knows why I have been introduced to this profound way of life.
Even if I don't live until a 100 or 90 years old, I'd like to thank you Dr. Fuhrman & audio - for today, yesterday and tomorrow. I have never felt this good in all my adult life (turned 41 yrs old 3 days ago)! I have never been able to feel my hip bones due to excess fat - I can now! only 20 days in. Mahalo nui loa 🤍🌿🙏🏽

The Change for My "Second Act" (rest of my life)

We're in the pandemic and God's blessed me with this opportunity to re-evaluate my health. What Dr. Fuhrman's book suggests isn't too far off from where I'm eating now, a few tweaks. I'm going Gradual!
