Publisher's Summary

One decision will haunt Blackstone soldier Keith for a lifetime....

Keith left behind the feisty love of his life, Lexi Klein, 10 years ago when he chose to become a soldier and leave for Iraq, but after a tragedy struck Lexi’s family and Keith couldn’t come home, she felt abandoned. When Keith finally managed to make it back to Boston, Lexi had completely withdrawn from everyone, including him. She decides to end their relationship and move on.

Lexi has always owned Keith’s heart. He just didn’t know how much....

Keith returns to Boston years later for a wedding and finds out Lexi is dating the leader of the infamous Almas Perdidas Gang. Lexi is in over her head, and Keith will stop at nothing to keep her safe. Having never recovered from her broken heart, Lexi wants no part of his grand savior routine. She made her choice, and she has her own reasons to stick to her guns about it.

Keith fights to regain Lexi’s trust, but old wounds are slow to heal....

After Lexi is beaten for not following gang rules, Keith decides to take her on a trip to convince her once and for all to let him back in. But Lexi is holding on to one last secret, and it will change everything. Happiness comes at a price, and once the front Lexi put up comes crashing down, that price will be paid in blood.

Keith must make a decision. Does his loyalty lie with the military? Or with the woman he loves? Or has too much time and history been lost for them to make one...final...Escape.

Great read

Lucy Rivers is NOT a narrator I’d recommend to anyone. Talk about robotic.

I enjoyed listening to Nelson Hobbs narrate though.

As for the story, man...I LOVE KIETH. I loved his character ever since I met him in Broken and I was STOKED to learn more about who he really was. Suffice it to say, I love him even more now.

Unfortunately, though, I was not a fan of Lexi at all. I couldn’t connect with her and she truly irritated me.

In true JL Drake fashion, the storyline was as always addictive and action-packed!

Terrible narration

Too often, when there are two POVs the split is done wrong. Two actors were hired why not let them work together to narrate properly? They would still only be reading about half the book each. It is difficult to keep track of who is who when there are multiple voices for every character. I read this entire series and was excited to listen to the additional stories. Then, it was difficult to hear it. I hope someone pays attention to reviews I can't be the only one to feel this way.

No Click No Pizazz

I liked the first in this series. This one, not so much. I just didn't feel the connection between the two main characters. Keith made good life decisions, she was a whiny, weak female. She blamed him for everything bad in her life- hello! Can we say grow up?! Utterly ridiculous. When the story goes to present day, and I assume the characters are close to their 30's, she still acts like a whiny child. I just can't see the male with this female. He's too confident, too smart for the female character. If these people are in their 30's, in an mc club and not growing up, they need help. Professional help. Narrators were good. I like this author, have listened to the Devil's Reach trilogy. While there was violence and sex, it wasn't too graphic and the female characters weren't too sappy. But this one, gotta pass.

I tried to find something good, and failed.

I really tried. I read a lot of reviews going into this and knew the female lead, Lexi, was going to be annoying so I tried to focus on the plot line and other characters but in the end I just couldn't get past her, it ruined a perfectly good story.

The first half of the book is Keith and Lexi as teens when they meet and fall in love in high school. As graduation nears Keith joins the army, waiting to tell lexi till after he joined was not the nicest move, but when you read the part from Lexis perspective you can see how excited Keith is and how much this means to him, and all she has to say is you broke my heart and then after a couple months she let's him back in she refuses to let him talk about his career that he loves. Fast forward a few years Keith is being deployed for the first time, again he doesnt tell Lexi until 2 days before he leaves (not great again but his reasons were just) and she ignores him until its too late to say goodbye. Throughout the year while he is gone some bad stuff happens to lexi and she begs him to come back, well he is in Iraq in the middle of a war so he cant just come and go as he pleases. ultimately it leads to their breakup and we fast forward to the present. the rest of the book we get to hear non stop about how Keith abandoned her and left her and chose to leave her and blah blah blah never once does she think about what he was going through, and what he was sacrificing for his country. or the fact that he loved his job and was doing something he valued. at one point she even thinks that she would never make him choose between her and the army, but their whole lives that's what she did, and because he was a soldier legally bound to duty at times he ofcourse couldn't choose her. I think she is the most selfish, horrible character I have read. I mean she went from keith to an abusive boyfriend and defended him to Keith!!! Apparently it's worse to serve your country than beat up on women. I mean she broke up with him, and then blames him for leaving her when she was vulnerable? It doesnt even make sense. There are so many other times I just sat there rolling my eyes because I couldn't believe how mean and selfish a person could be, all the while saying he broke her heart.
Apart from Lexi the story was lacking at times, the ending was really rushed and didnt really make sense. Lexi was a B till the end and Keith just let her get away with it and treat him like crap up until the very end.
Also there were some things I dont feel were tied up, like why her twin got that look when the girl tried to kiss her when she was drugged? what was that about?
The narrator's were horrible too.
This was a waste through and through. Could have been great, the plot idea was great, poor execution.

Escape

I think she was pathetic. She was weak and she was just wanted to blame someone for her weakness. I have no sympathy for her.

Seriously love J. L. Drake work

Omg love the 1 book in this series and liked this book too, love NaN’s character and he love of liquor hahaha and the bond she has with her grandson and love Mark Lopez character and when him and Nan were together they cracked me up.. Mark is the best character luv him! But omg I was repeating over and over to myself listening to this book saying “Stupid girl” lol that’s how good J.L. Drake writes.. I was so ticked off at the female character in this book, I seriously wanted Keith to walk away from her... enough was enough geese... I know she was on a mission seriously how many times are you going to throw the past in someone’s face especially when she found out why he left so fast! I just didn’t care for Lexi at all! And trust me I’m a sucker for strong women not giving in but holy moly .. I just couldn’t believe it! Lol ok I’m done! Love this writer and most of the characters
