Publisher's Summary

There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction.

Peak is a groundbreaking book exploring the fundamentals of high performance (not the fads), the importance of consistency (not extreme effort), and the value of patience (not rapid transformation). Dr. Marc Bubbs makes deep science easy-to-understand, and with information from leading experts who are influencing the top performers in sports on how to achieve world-class success, he lays out the record-breaking feats of athleticism, and strategies that are rooted in this personalized approach. Dr. Bubbs expertly brings together the worlds of health, nutrition, and exercise, and synthesizes the salient science into actionable guidance. Regardless if you’re trying to improve your physique, propel your endurance, or improve your team’s record, looking at performance through this lens is absolutely critical for lasting success.

No Chapter Labels :(

Why am I only seeing chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3 without any context into what each chapter is about?

This is annoying and will be returned.

Very helpful!!

Great insights on bettering myself to reach my fitness goals, but also provides amazing insights on coaching. Although stating references sound dry, I do appreciate when authors outline their sources and really layout the science behind their points. Although it isn’t the most entertaining when that happens, but that’s the trade off I suppose.

Not just for athletes

I BELIEVE THIS BOOK CAN ALSO HELP YOU IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE. SOUNDS LIKE THE QUALITIES DISCUSSED THAT MAKE UP AN ELITE ATHLETE ARE THE SAME THAT MAKE YOU A GREAT HUMAN. ESPECIALLY CHAPETER 12 AND 13 WHO ARE ABOUT MINDSET AND LEADERSHIP.

Very Informative

well written, researched and presented. As a coach I appreciated the width and the breadth of the information as well as the neutral presentation of current trends.

90% great, 10% mixed

Mostly a fantastic book, though once in a while the evidence that is early/equivocal/not beneficial overall (based on current systemic reviews and other experts in the field, eg. the benefits of uncommonly high vitamin D levels) is given similar emphasis to that which is actually solid; Marc Bubbs qualifies this most of the time, but not always. That being said, 90% of the content was great, consistent with best evidence, and well-delivered.

Definitely will go over again

Was recommended from a friend a little advanced for those new to athletics but if you've taken training seriously and did a bit of homework it's a game changer... Otherwise if your new to working out or some sports science there is probably better option's out there to learn from first... Great book

Please get a professional narrator....

The narrator sounds so close to a computer voice, at times I wondered if it actually WAS narrated by a computer. The monotone, lack of inflection, awkward pauses...its almost too much. Im afraid that the audiobook version of this otherwise good book will cause alot of people to miss out on useful information. It truly, truly is a struggle to focus and listen to this narrator.

Just a Word Salad

Nothing actionable and nearly all conclusions include the phrase “It depends” or “we just don’t know”

information dense

I learned a lot from this title, It was a little tough to follow in audiobook format, because it was so information dense, but information is good! The information goes beyond most of the stuff you read online and in magazines, and the author takes pains to explain the underlying research.

Awesome!

My favorite part about this book is that the author asks many questions that he then goes on to answer objectively with sound scientific research. He doesn’t add his own opinion unless clearly stated and he doesn’t exaggerate or underestimate findings. It is clear and a book you may want to put on repeat a few times until you’re able to understand all of the concepts. They are scholarly and can give your brain a little twist if you’re not a commoner of functional medicine principles.

PieRsquareSportsScience.

This book is very well narrated considering the high caliber content included in every chapter. I use Audible.com to preview books on my Amazon.com wish list. This is definitely one of those books that I will proceed to purchase the hardcover version. There’s so much to learn from that it simply requires more than just listening to it. It is definitely a keeper for your personal ‘sports science’ library.

Audiobook is not the best format

This book is absolutely packed with really interesting information on what medical science knows and doesn’t know about wellness, fitness, and athletic performance. However, much of the book is written in lists or blurbs that don’t translate well to the audiobook format. In addition, it’s read by the author. I usually like when this is done as the author knows just how they intended for a sentence to be inflected, but in this case it is really difficult to listen to. He constantly pauses at strange places within a sentence or even a word, which makes it very difficult to follow what is being said. I really wanted to be able to listen to this whole book but I just can’t get past the strange stilted performance.

Superb

Almost too much detail at times. but in every way, Dr. Bubbs gives hope to athletes of all ages. I have made serious nutritional shifts based on his advice. Read the book if you have more than a casual approach to fitness.

Packed with Information

This book is very detailed and incredibly informative. Anyone from a novice to an experienced training will take something away from this book and everyone should read it more than once to absorb all the information.

A bit too superficial

This book attempts to cover everything w.r.t. performance and, in doing so, fails to cover most anything to an insightful level of detail. If you're new to performance then maybe it's helpful but if you're already well read in the field then it's too superficial.
