Publisher's Summary

The turning point for the entire Star Wars saga is at hand.

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the already faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. On Coruscant, the Senate watches anxiously as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine aggressively strips away more and more constitutional liberties in the name of safeguarding the Republic. Yoda, Mace Windu, and their fellow Masters grapple with the Chancellor's disturbing move to assume control of the Jedi Council. And Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force, is increasingly consumed by his fear that his secret love, Senator Padme Amidala, will die.

As the combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame: Obi-Wan undertakes a perilous mission to destroy the dreaded Separatist military leader General Grievous. Palpatine, eager to secure even greater control, subtly influences public opinion to turn against the Jedi. And a conflicted Anakin, tormented by unspeakable visions, edges dangerously closer to the brink of a galaxy-shaping decision. It remains only for Darth Sidious, whose shadow looms ever larger, to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic...and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

What the critics say

"Stover fills in the blanks regarding one of cinema's most fascinating villains with respect and relish, providing answers to such questions as why Vader looked so weird and how he became Luke's dad. This is the perfect companion to the blockbuster film." (Publishers Weekly)

Pleasantly surprised

Anakins slow seduction into the dark side is deep and well executed. I also found the political manipulation really interesting and even found myself siding with the villain sometimes. great book

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

Jonathan Davis is THE BEST narrator for Star Wars I know of. I'm easily able to to suspend my disbelief, even when he is portraying a woman.

The story is true to the movie, which is my favourite along with The Empire Strikes Back.

Six out of five stars!

The High Ground of Star Wars writing

A beautiful book. Poetry infused throughout even the would-be mundane descriptions. Rarely does the author fill his book with monotonous obligatory words in tribute to the environment and surroundings. What is illustrated by this author’s establishing the settings are what are most pertinent to the story… to characters… to their relationships and to the overarching story.
Infusing the movie’s rushed and crowded acts with thoughtfulness, pacing, pathos and ethos, the poignancy of this intimate story of heroes and evil is for all and any Star Wars who is old enough to watch a PG-13 movie give or take.

I wish Matthew Stover had written a lot more of the Star Wars books that are coming out. He has a deep understanding of that certain something that draws people into these stories of light and dark, love and hate, loss and redemption.
The narrator kills it too! A good grasp of the different voices while remaining crisp and clear throughout. Some voices vary, such as General Grievous’s which is nothing like his movie or show counterparts.
The music and sound effects are welcome accompaniment to this tragic epic.

Anyways, enjoy.

Better than the movie

Loved every moment of the audiobook. Delves into the deeper themes the movie was trying to tell, and portrays Anakin's downfall in a much more fluid and dynamic way.

A book braught to life

This Audio book is one of the greatest works of fiction I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. This book makes Anakins struggle and turn so much more understandable and does what the movie never really had enough time to acomplish. It also makes things much easier to understand which is what I love about books, since they allow you into the head of the characters you see on screen, and allow you to hear what their thinking, what they want and what they expect to happen. This book is simply amazing and while most of it isn’t “Canon” anymore, this book will always be some of the best Star Wars content ever made.
But you have to actually listen to what’s being said, or in all honesty you may get lost and confused. Attempting to absorb this book while being occupied with somthing else will diminish the overall experience.
