À propos de cet audio

Murder links past and present once again in this mind-boggling metafictional mystery from Anthony Horowitz—another tribute to the golden age of Agatha Christie featuring detective Atticus Pund and editor Susan Ryland, stars of the New York Times bestsellers Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders

Editor Susan Ryeland has left her Greek island, her hotel, and her Greek boyfriend, Andreas, in search of a new life back in England.

Freelancing for Causton Books, she’s working on the manuscript of a novel, Pund’s Last Case, by a young author named Eliot Crace, a continuation of the popular Alan Conway series. Susan is surprised to learn that Eliot is the grandson of legendary children’s author Marian Crace, who died some fifteen years ago—murdered, Eliot insists, by poison.

As Susan begins to read the manuscript’s opening chapters, the skeptical editor is relieved to find that Pund’s Last Case is actually very good. Set in the South of France, it revolves around the mysterious death of Lady Margaret Chalfont, who, though mortally ill, is poisoned—perhaps by a member of her own family. But who did it? And why?

The deeper Susan reads, the more it becomes clear that the clues leading to the truth of Marian Crace’s death are hidden within this Atticus Pund mystery.

While Eliot’s accusation becomes more plausible, his behaviour grows increasingly erratic. Then he is suddenly killed in a hit-and-run accident, and Susan finds herself under police scrutiny as a suspect in his death.

Three mysterious deaths. Multiple motives and possible murderers. If Susan doesn’t solve the mystery of Pund’s Last Case, she may well be the next victim.

I do enjoy the Susan Ryeland mysteries because they very cleverly offer a mystery within a mystery and it is a fresh perspective on a woman lead detective novels (although I hope someday a strong women will decide to not drink like a horse or smoke and not drive a sports car. Someday.).
I love how Horowitz settles the atmosphere. The descriptions of places and characters are top notch. The plot(s) however are a little loopy and does not fit right. Why a police office would offer to write the last chapter of a book is a lil impractical(even in the realm on fiction) for me. Seemed a bit forced to just introduce the ending of the Pund mystery. Also Susan did not learn from her mistakes. *sigh* But over all i had a good time.

The story within story is a clever way of keeping the readers engaged.

Anthony Horowitz has done it again- and I think Marble Hall Murders is the best one yet! Fantastic complexity in how the mysteries interlace. I just love Susan Ryland! I hope more are on the way!

Loved both stories so much!

Two (+) for the price of one. A fictional account of a murder leads to a real-life (fictional) murder. Horowitz is at the top of his game. Sadly, he has said that this will be the final chapter of the series, both for the heroine and Detective Pünd, It is to be Pünd's Last Case. Ever, Ever, Ever. Oddly, I have heard a rumor that instead of returning to London, he has decided to spend his "last" days in the Bernese Oberland area of Switzerland, and the restorative waters of the tributaries of the Aare River.

A brilliant murder mystery by a Master Storyteller.

He never misses. A perfect third chapter to the series with our beloved Susan Ryland.

Another masterpiece from Horowitz

Disliked the ending - romance let down- we were waiting for them to get together and it was dismissed.

Author’s ability to write two books in one and weave their plots together.

Before I give my main comment, I need to draw attention to Anthony Horowitz's perpetuation of a mental health myth that he MUST know is total b.s. Mr. Horowitz has a character call someone's multiple-personality -ish behaviour "schizophrenic". Schizophrenia has NOTHING to do with multiple personalities (now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder), and that's been fairly general knowledge for a lot of decades. Anthony Horowitz pretending that it does is really irresponsible.
Ok, main comment: in this book, the main character's third outing, she is just NOT sympathetic. Often, her inner thoughts are REALLY selfish, especially concerning other people's suffering. Many, many times, I found myself saying out loud, "I REALLY do not like this woman." And, that reminded me that I found Anthony Horowitz's "Anthony Horowitz" character to be rather selfish, throughout Horowitz's Hawthorne and Horowitz book series. Huh!

For most of book, I did NOT like the main character
