Publisher's Summary

This morning, I was packing up lunches, ironing, putting on the laundry I should have done last night. Now my precious daughter is accused of murder.

When 10-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother, Juliet, cannot believe it.

How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing?

As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed?

Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again.

The most unputdownable psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K. L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Silent Ones.

Pretty good!

The Silent Ones was a great listen while I was at work - which is primarily why I have Audible. The Narrator was excellent - I love how she did the voices for all of the characters; it was easy for me to differentiate which character was speaking and even when she did male voices it didn't seem 'foolish' as this is an area I often find I am extremely critical.
I felt the story itself was good. I enjoyed the mystery and I did like the multiple storylines. What made me give 3 stars for story was just the fact that I felt like everything was just 'solved' - just like that! Every unfortunate part of this story was resolved with an easy fix. Although there were moments where I was literally gasping out loud at my desk because I just could not believe what I was hearing.
If you would like a good story that will keep you guessing - pick this up!

It wasn't horrible.

I didn't love this book. I found it a bit boring and the ending was far-fetched. Definitely not bad, but not good either.

Another good novel done

Another K.L. Slater enjoyable book. It kept me wanting to hear more so that’s always a good thing. The twist at the very end had a charm of its own and gave me a good feeling even though I was sad to have the book end. Well done!!

Great Narration

The storey wasn’t really about the two young silent girls at all. I found just way too much stuff happening all at once. Juliet is so oblivious if all that really happened and she was in aware of everything.
Having said that … I read through till the end to find out what happened.

Duh I need Cpt Obvious to be my bestie

The main character is sooo hopelessly clueless that it was hard to keep going. It had some good twists but the twists in her thinking made it hard to enjoy them. Good Narrator.

COULDN'T WAIT FOR IT TO END

Silent Ones didn't hold my interest. I found it mediocre and incredibly easy to give up on over and over but I wanted to get through it because the book was nonrefundable. If I could get my money back, believe me, I would.

Couldn’t stop listening

So I have at least an hour commute one way or the other and I mainly listen to my books. Once they get to the last few chapters and everything is unfolding I’ll read them after work to finish. NOT. THIS. ONE. I literally had this one going non-stop as much as I could. If this was a book-book it would have been a page turner and its readers would have been up until the wee hours just to figure out what happened. Full stars across the board for me and as an audio book listener.

Story peters out

I have listened to some absolutely fantastic psychological thrillers by K.L. Slater, but this was not one of them. It started out great, and one can't help feel despair for kids who one is almost sure are innocent (especially the one who confesses), and the one's mother, to whom all kinds of awful things happen in a very short time. But then, suddenly, all is resolved. Just like that. Easy peasy. From 100 to 0 in the space of a few minutes of listening. No great detective work involved in getting the real culprit. No new evidence. No search for what really happened. Just suddenly resolved in the space, basically, of one phone call. Could have been a great book except for the ending. I felt let down. It felt as if there should have been at least another 2 or 3 hours of suspense and storytelling before the "great" reveal!

Loved the twists and turns

I'm a big fan of KL Slater and enjoy listening to all of her novels. As usual, she didn't disappoint. There's a lot of deep thought in this one regarding society and families. Well done.

Not her best work!!!!

I love her work but this book felt rushed and the characters were absolutely not fully developed. I found the reactions of the characters totally unbelievable. She’s a great writer and her books are normally very enjoyable but this was just too much.

Excellent!

Great twists and turns. K.L. Slater keeps you guessing! Just when you think you've guessed the next turn, she throws in a twist. Don't get me started on the back story. I'm hooked on her books 📚

Must listen!

This is by far one of the best books I’ve listened to. I did not expect all of the twist. Very much enjoyed this book.
