Publisher's Summary

International best-selling phenomenon Mel Robbins has inspired millions to change their lives - and now she'll help you get ahead, get paid, and change your work life.

Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? What can you do when you start to doubt yourself? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? What do you do when you’re feeling invisible and unappreciated?

Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately. In this mix of one-on-one career coaching sessions and personal narrative, you’ll laugh, learn, and be inspired to get ahead at work - all while getting more enjoyment out of your life. No matter where you are professionally, Work It Out will give you the tools you need to create the career of your dreams.

Yes!!

I absolutely loved this book! It was honestly just what I needed to help me in the workplace. Some of it I couldn't relate to (ie being a mother and working) but the message was helpful. I really enjoyed this book and I'll probably listen to it again.

Absolutely AMAZING

Surpassed my expectations! Every and any woman will get something meaningful and helpful out of this audiobook no matter where you are in life and your career. I highly recommend! Even though I am not in the same position as some of the ladies coached in this book (having kids), I got a lot out of those sessions that I could apply to my own life. Please do yourself a favor and this to this audiobook, you won't regret it!

I love her, but am a little disappointed with this

I love her advice, but all of the case sinarios were highly educated, previously successful women.

Life changing

I seldom leave reviews but had to take the time to leave one here. At the beginning, I was annoyed with the number of times Mel Robbins said that this was for “people just like you”. I was like…yeah, I get it, get on with it.
But I’m so glad I continued to finish. Although not all scenarios covered applied to me, each and every one had a nugget that I could take away. I was in a complete rut at work and ready to quit my job and instead I feel inspired and empowered to create a better work environment for myself. And if it doesn’t work out as planned, Mel also gives good tips on how to find a new one.
Highly recommend! I’m sure I’ll listen to snipits of this again in the future.

Must read for every working woman

I honestly didn’t think I’d see myself in this book and was I ever wrong. Incredible advice for every working woman (and to be honest men too). I wish it was available outside of audible because I’d buy it for every one of my women employees.

I needed this 10-15 years ago

While some of these interviews were less applicable to me than others I still learned so much from the lessons Mel provide about the workforce. Omg I’ve been doing everything wrong 🤦🏼‍♀️ I thought putting my head down and being quiet/non-controversial and getting the work done was what gets you ahead. Until this book id never even considered the power of visibility or making what I want known to my manager. I assumed they knew I wanted career growth. I assumed they knew the work I was doing behind the scenes. Ugh. So obvious in hindsight how wrong I was. Highly recommend this book for any woman in the workforce. Tons of practical advice.

I love Mel Robbins!

I love Mel Robbins and love all her books. My only problem with this book is quite a bit of advice mentions a partner and having your significant other help with this, that, and the other. As someone who is single, it's frustrating advice because me starting any type of business, or switching jobs, is never going to be a balance with my partner... Or having a partner take on something so you can fulfill a goal. Aside from that, awesome book

Compelling, useful, and entertaining

This book may be called "Work It Out," but it goes far deeper than just our careers and work. So far, in listening to Mel's deep coaching and takeaways, I have learned that the challenges we face in our work are the same ones we have had throughout our lives. And while listening to each session I can see myself in every single one, and even better -- I get a clear understanding of how it can be changed immediately. This book, like all of Mel's work, stands out from the many "tips" and "hacks" we receive about how to be more productive and successful and instead focuses on how we can spot our subtle missteps and have the life and careers we have always wanted. 5 stars all around.

SO much useful coaching

I'll be honest. I'm only three sessions in but ALREADY I am blown away by how much I am learning. And just like Mel's last two Audible audiobooks, I somehow seem to relate with every session. I just wish I'd had this book twenty years ago because I would have done things so much differently in my jobs, and definitely while looking for jobs. I have to digest all this stuff but I can't wait to try out the nuggets I've got so far. Thanks, Mel!

Horrible!

I hardly ever write reviews but felt I had to warn people about this book because it had so many great reviews. All I can say is thank goodness Audible lets you exchange books (by the way, did you know that? Wonderful feature). This book was more of a therapy session than a business book. I am a small business owner and I was really excited to listen to this book. I am a pretty strong person and have a fairly successful business, but I'm always looking to improve myself. I couldn't get through more than 45 minutes of this book. I really gave it a chance, I listened to two of the women's stories and just had to shut it off. Let's just say there's a reason why these women in the book have problems. They don't need a business coach they need a therapist. I can see how this book may be helpful for women who are pushovers, have low self-esteem and other similar issues. But if you are a business woman looking to up your business game, this is NOT the book for you.

Cannot stop listening!!

WOW. This came out yesterday and I’m already almost all the way through. Mel dives deep into the past/stories of each guest and gets to the REAL root of the issue that they are facing. I just love her approach - straight to the point and no BS - but so caring at the same time. I feel so empowered already. Incredible.

Mel will change the world

As an already accomplished business owner, the first minutes into the book I thought “this book probably isn’t for me.” Then I got to chapter 2 and holy crap- Mel spoke to me yet again. I knew I loved her for a reason. She’s changing the world for the better one small action at a time. You gotta listen to this one!

Worth the time

Although this isn’t a quick listen (I have very little time these days), I’m giving my review 5 stars! It was chock full of great advice in each segment. Although I resonated most with the last woman, Rachel - I took away helpful information from each of the 5 sessions. Quality advice that will help me as I go out into the world to search for a job after being a stay at home mom for the last 17 years. Thank you, Mel!!! P.S. I love your voice!

Couldn’t stand the Debbie Downer tons of this book.

I thought this book would be inspirational. But really it’s just a Debbie Downer book. Put me in a gross mood instantly. No thanks !

Mel at her best!

Listening to these one-on-one coaching sessions is very inspiring. Mel is so good at getting to the heart of the matter and delicately handling her participants' emotions, then succinctly guiding them to the answers they need.. She combines just the right amounts of hand-holding and kick-in-the-ass motivation! Although this audio book is marketed to working women, I think the advice would be helpful to anyone, including stay-at-home parents, who sometimes are juggling more "work" than society likes to acknowledge. Also, the online companion workbook is an added bonus for anyone who wants to roll up her sleeves and use the exercises to course correct.

Too much hand holding for me

I have Mel’s other books so I was definitely looking forward to “Work It Out”. I loved the stories and the revelations that came with them but the key takeaways at the end of each interview were far longer and repetitive than they needed to be. For example, for one of the interviews, the interview itself was around 40 minutes and the key takeaways from the interview was nearly 2 hours. I felt the takeaways were meaningful but I kept hearing myself thinking “ok, let’s move on. I get it”. There’s definitely more hand holding in this book than in her other ones, which might be good for some, but not for me.
