  • Episode 122: On Writing Thousand Word Stories, Magical Moments & Realizing Dreams with Kathy Simmers
    Sep 25 2023

Episode 122: In this Equestrian Author Spotlight, you'll meet Kathy Simmers.

Kathy always wanted to live on a farm with horses. When she was twelve years old, she started taking riding lessons. At nineteen she bought her first horse. It seemed like she was well on her way, but life doesn’t always go in a straight line. Though Kathy faced many obstacles she never gave up on her dream. Today Kathy & her husband live on a farm in North Carolina with horses, llamas, a small herd of goats, cats, a dog, and some chickens.

Jump the Moon, Kathy’s children’s book is based on the true story of her daughter (the girl with the long blonde hair) and the unbelievable bond she developed with her pony (Me Too). Witnessing their story was initially exciting, at times heartbreaking and ultimately one of the most inspiring experiences she has ever known. It was so inspiring in fact that it's why today Kathy lives in North Carolina on the horse farm that she always dreamed of, where she is currently working on her next book.   She hopes that by sharing Jump the Moon readers will learn the importance of trusting your heart, following your dreams and never putting limits on what is possible.   Saddle up for a conversation about magical moments, leaning into the pursuit of a dream, writing strong stories in a thousand words, and building intuition through horses.   Show notes: https://www.carlykadecreative.com/blog/episode-122-on-writing-thousand-word-stories-magical-moments-realizing-dreams-with-kathy-simmers-equestrian-author-spotlight-podcast   Want a free guide to secrets of horse book authors? • Episode 121: On Volunteering at Mustang Camp, Falling for Burros & Inspiring Adoptions with Veronica Moore
    Aug 26 2023
Episode 121: In this Equestrian Author Spotlight, you'll meet Mustang Camp Volunteer and Board Member Veronica Moore. She has come on the show to share her adventures with fellow volunteer animal trainers from around the globe who teamed up to write a children's book about a baby burro. Mustang Camp is a non-profit organization that helps formerly wild animals transition to a life with people. It is operated by volunteers and students, placing 40 to 70 animals a year into private ownership. It works with the Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service, and rescue organizations. It is one of the 11 licensed equine rescues in New Mexico and directed by Dr. Patricia Irick, Ph.D.   Saddle up for a conversation about how love for donkeys inspired an illustrator from France (Aline Grindatto), a photographer from England (Jasna Furlan), and writers in New York City (Veronica Moore) and northern New Mexico (Patricia Irick and Christine Ng) to join forces to produce Peabody Gets Adopted, a book about animal adoption. The team originally met while training wild mustangs and burros for the adoption program at Mustang Camp.   Show notes: https://www.carlykadecreative.com/blog/episode-121-on-mustang-camp-falling-for-burros-inspiring-adoptions-with-veronica-moore-equestrian-author-spotlight-podcast   Want a free guide to secrets of horse book authors?
