Checking in from a rainy day on the video shoot for “Bottle Rockets,” Scotty McCreery and Hootie & The Blowfish reached out to Rob + Holly to talk about the making of the song, the history of the band, and more.

Earlier this year the Carolina connection was made between McCreery and Hootie, as the singer invited the band in to incorporate "Hold My Hand" into his latest single, "Bottle Rockets." Between takes and storms at The Windjammer in Charleston, SC the GRAMMY-winning group and the 'American Idol' alum gave us some insight into the collab and the history of Hootie.

  • Tyler Hubbard | Friday Night Takeover
    Aug 11 2025

Tyler Hubbard has his hands in a lot of things these days, from his hat company to writing hits with everyone from Keith Urban to Nelly. The "Dancin' In The Country" singer slowed down just long enough to join Rob + Holly this week on the 'Friday Night Takeover,' to talk about all that and more.

Listen as Tyler talks about the making of a few of his recent hits, like the one that Keith Urban told him to keep, and the church parking lot story that inspired "Park."

"I actually got caught parking when I was 15 with my girlfriend and flashbacks were coming back from that," admits Tyler, sharing an officer stopped the pair in the lot that night. Telling the police he was "talking and praying," he was told, "I'm gonna follow you home and tell your dad about your prayers you're having out here."

Hubbard says he was grounded, "for like a month," but at least he got a great song out of it.

  • Scotty McCreery | Friday Night Takeover
    Aug 4 2025

Scotty McCreery joins Rob + Holly this week on the 'Friday Night Takeover' to talk about his song "Bottle Rockets," the stories behind a few of his hits, and how his wife reacts to his music the first time she hears it

The Carolina connection is strong on Scotty McCreery's new single, "Bottle Rockets," featuring a classic in its own right from Hootie & The Blowfish.

"The rest of the guys recorded their stuff before we'd even tracked the song in the studio," reveals Scotty. "They were like, 'we're already here in Charleston at the studio. Can we just do it?' And we're like, 'Well, here's the beat and here's the key, so knock it out.' So, it worked out and then Darius was in town from London, so it all came together nicely."

"I've been such a fan for a long time, but me and D have become really good friends over the years, and golf buddies, and fantasy football, all the whole nine yards," McCreery shares about his friendship with Darius Rucker. "We wrote the song in the mountains of Carolina on a little retreat, just kind of reminiscent on old summers and the soundtracks of those summers and everybody loved Hootie, but in the Carolinas, they were like even more, you know, big time."

After riffing on the song and "Hold My Hand," McCreery says it "felt like it flowed right into it." They reached out to their Blowfish friends and "they were all about it."
