About this listen

The highly anticipated sequel to the thrilling New York Times best-selling Six of Crows.

Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn't think they'd survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they're right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz's cunning and test the team's fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city's dark and twisting streets - a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.

Still interesting

I was worried that the second book might lose my attention. However it was a good story and I enjoyed how the characters continued to develop. I also enjoyed the way the relationships flourished. Over all good book. I enjoyed listening to it while out walking and doing chores.

Action scenes

I love these books and I hate to bring any negativity to them but I wish the action scenes were executed differently often enough that I feel I need to comment.
the other day a friend and I were talking about the ways a narrator can imply that things tense. a quicker pace, talking through teeth, whisper shouting... Anyway, when an intense scene is read with the same calm and a quiet one on one, it can lack the urgency of the written words and I just wished that had been better honoured by some of the narrators. Thanks.

A bit slow in parts...

Due to this being the second book in the series, it didn’t capture my attention as much as being introduced to the characters and the epic heist of the first book. But I still love the multiple narrators and the development of the characters. Especially Kaz’s narration, he is my favourite. We have a nice cameo from some Grisha from the Shadow and Bone series which was a treat!

What A Climax!

It was exciting to jump back into the world of The Crows I'd become attached to in book 1. I had missed them.

I put off buying Crooked Kingdom for quite awhile. I was super leery about this book. Not because I didn't enjoy Six of Crows, but because I had such a hard time with the narration nd the ages of the characters. I wanted so badly to discover the outcome of our protagonists but I didn't think I could sit thru the narrators again. I contemplated purchasing/borrowing the physical copy just to get some closure. There was no need.

Altho some of the same narrators are back (Jesper for example) nd their character ages were still an issue, this audiobook was easier to listen to. Kaz's voice was the biggest improvement for me. It suited him more. Nd I personally aged all the characters in my own head, putting them more in their 20's nd therefore making their exploits more believable. Made it easier to believe the whole storyline.

Nd what a storyline! Crooked Kingdom kept me on my toes. Just when I thought I had it figured out, BAM! curveball. I laughed, I gasped, I even cried. I was right there in Ketterdam with them...a seventh, invisible, Crow. Altho the climax was satisfying, the ending left me hollow, empty, unfinished. I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I didn't have enuf to just walk away without a second glance. However, most books leave me wanting...so I guess this isn't specific to this story.

Great listen! Prepare yourselves...cause altho this is a ride worth getting on, it's full of surprises!
