Description

"Mountain Man" Augustus Berry is a survivor in undead suburbia. He scavenges what he can from what's left over. He is very careful in what he does and where he goes, taking no chances, no unnecessary risks, and weighing every choice...until he decides to visit the hospital at the edge of town, and experiences terror the likes he's never encountered before. A short story of approximately 9,500 words. The first story of the "Mountain Man" series. Contains language and graphic violence. If you enjoy this, check out the rest of the series.

rating 3.5

I enjoyed this audiobook due to its similarities to a podcast I frequently listen to. I may listen to the others in the series at a later date.

Short but entertaining

Ha! Enjoyed this read a lot! It's hard for me to dislike zombies but this book, er, short story is the first of a series. I'm definitely going to check the rest out.

A great short story

I listened to the Omnibus and the hospital was mentioned...Gus has turned into a one of my favorite literary characters.
I knew as soon as he opened the storage room...toilet paper.
Listen to the introduction to the Mountain man series, at the end of the Hospital, and you'll be hooked.
R.C. Bray is awesome as always

Not for me

It was a little too graphic with the violence for me. Otherwise it’s just another zombie book. #audible1

A nice teaser

This short story is basically the backstory that was likely written later to a character from a zombie apocalypse novel.
I haven’t read the novel but this sample of writing has made me want to, so as an appetizer it worked. At just over an hour (I think) it introduces the character, the world and leaves many unanswered questions that I would like to know more about.

The Hospital- What a Fun Short Story!

Thanks for my first taste of the Mountain Man and his fight against “Gimps” and psycho humans alike! This story was crazy scary, funny, and a great new spin on fighting Zombies!

Also, enjoyed the preview of the Mountain Man Series! I’ll be back for more!

40 ROLLS OF ASS CLEANING GOODNESS

If my headline bothers you, stop now, you will hate this book. Augustus Berry is not the most cultured of men. He is fat, balding and loves to drink himself to a stupor. He has no military experience (how unique is that for a Zombie book.), he survives, because he has watched enough horror movies to know the correct way to behave in an apocalypse.

This is gory, scary and smelly. Yea, you will smell things you don't want to smell. It is not just bloody and gory, it is very scary. Watch out for the Stephen King's "Misery" scene, but mostly watch out for the babies!!

At the time I am writing, this is free. Get this in your library before someone changes their mind. This is the best short story I have listened to, Paid for, or otherwise in a long time.

R.C. Bray is one of those narrators that is the tipping point for a book, when you are trying to decide if you should purchase.

Scary

The nurse was so creepy! RC Bray did a wonderful job, yet again, bringing these characters to life!

rugged, dirty, well read by bray

I'm going to purchase the full book for Bray alone. I hope the full installments of the series have the character grow and not stay the s*** kickn' bruiser he appears to be at this point in the story

Hilarious. The Audiobook equivalent of "The Room"

Had Tommy Wiseu been born in Alabama, and decided to write short horror stories instead of making films, then something like this is what he would write. Its endearingly bad in that special way where a work accidentally reveals info about its creator. Its a mary sue novel, but instead of being written by some angsty tween ,its written by someone who day drinks during work and I love it

Your worse fears about hospitals and then some!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it is a nice short and sharp story. With excellent narration and it will leave the listener wanting more!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hospital: The FREE Short Story: The First Mountain Man Story?

I like how the main character does a roving commentary of his plans and habits

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Another one of Bray's excellent works. I buy books now sorely because of his narration

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Attack of the blood sucking babies

Any additional comments?

Just download it! And you may as well download the followup book. I just wish the author would write the next one!

Not Sure About This Series?

I got this after listening to the Mountain Man and I get why the reviews for The Hospital are on the average side. In the Hospital you get a taste of who Gus is but just a taste. Do yourself a favor and get The Mountain Man. You'll get to know Gus better and enjoy Mr. Blackmore's fine story telling skills. I really liked that story and I am looking forward to more of the Mountain Man.

Not for me

I just couldn't like this one. While the narrator does a good job with the story, the story itself just didn't suit my tastes. It is well thought out, and very unlike most of the zombie drivel that is put out anymore. However, the parts that try to frighten merely end up being a squishy mess. The more suspenseful parts work well, but the horror turns out to be just the opposite.
