Story
Last night, we celebrated our anniversary. Over candlelight, we talked about the children, our work, and I was so happy, and felt so loved. But the next morning, when I check my phone, there is a message. From a friend. And a string of photos appear of my husband, Will, with another woman: walking along the street holding hands. Going into fancy hotels. Standing at a window, his arms around her, her head on his shoulder…

Story
It’s hard meeting your ex after so much time apart. You remember the tears and accusations, the desperate look on his face as he punched the wall, but you try not to show it. You smile politely, even while your heart beats faster. You watch as he looks down into the stroller, at the beautiful blond-haired, blue-eyed baby kicking his little legs in the sunshine, whose innocent smile lights up your world. You see his face change. You know what he’s thinking. The next day he calls. His voice is shaking. He wants the truth. Is it his child?

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

I thought my sister was happy. I thought what we all thought: that Annie and Dom led perfect lives in a lovely cottage in a quiet village by the sea, with flowers at the front gate and an apple tree in the garden. Everyone knew them: generous, loving Dom, creative, joyful Annie. But I never saw Annie as she sat waiting for Dom well into the night. I didn’t see her smiling through her tears. I didn’t know what the perfect couple was hiding.

Publisher's Summary
The night she moves in with Peter, she’s so happy, so exhilarated, so in love. Later, she will remember a much smaller feeling, a tiny 1 percent in her gut. And she will remember pushing that feeling aside....
Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her - a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her - but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls.
Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself - the one she’s always wanted to be. It’s only normal that there’s a little friction, when she moves in, over domestic matters like where things are kept, or the proper times to eat, sleep, and shower. She’s lucky to be with someone who can help her find a new job, move on from childish friends, and speak with greater sophistication.
But as Samantha notices, more and more, Peter’s temper, she starts to wonder if there might be consequences to breaking the rules of the world he has so quickly built around her.
And then she receives an anonymous note that makes her ask: Is she the first woman to feel trapped by Peter? Is she being paranoid, manipulated, or could she be in danger?
You can tell the truth about your life, but someone needs to be listening. Someone needs to trust you. And someone needs to save you from the man you thought you loved.

OMG SOOOOOO NOT!!!!!!!!! a "gripping thriller"
This book had such a fraudulent description ("gripping psychological thriller") that I am canceling my Audible membership over it. I am sick to death of paying good money for terrible books with "gripping" descriptions and either fraudulent or skewed reviews to suck you into wasting your money.
The writing is fine, but the story is so far from gripping, it is an atrocity. Watching paint dry would be more gripping than this head shaker of a thoroughly common, so predictable plot.
It appears to be written by a teenager from a very immature point of view, because only a teenager would have so little life-experience to think that such a common and pervasive 'plot' is shocking or suspenseful.
Young, female university student (ie., barely over 18 or 19) is seduced by her older male professor, he tells her he's "never felt this way before" and "she's the ONE", and she falls head over heels for the worldly, wise, handsome man., Then, to discover after he "has" her, and here's the huge, shocking twist.... he's been bedding young, even teenage students for decades, and she's just one of many!!! WOW!!! What a shocker!!!!! NEVER saw that coming! SERIOUSLY?????!!!!!!!! How naive is the author?????????!!!!! Are we supposed to pretend that this is not the most common, predictable behaviour from a middle-aged man?!!
Chapter after chapter is shockingly long and drawn out, with the sheltered, naive young woman acting so shocked to discover every predictable clue along the very well worn path. I forced myself to finish it only because I kept telling myself it can't be that a book was published with this being the plot. I kept waiting for what must be a "real" plot to emerge. But no, this "gripping psychological thriller" really is just about a naive adolescent falling for her older professor and discovering he's been bedding all of his students only after she's all-in on the relationship.
The main character acts like his behaviour is so rare, so shocking, such a 'twist' that he turns out to be a cad, when anybody over 25 knows that middle-aged male professors seducing young female students is as common as growing grass. We're supposed to be shocked and in suspense over his increasing lack of interest, and the big, BIG--are you ready for it--SHOCKING MOMENT OF ALL... she discovers he DYES his hair!!! And OH. MY. GOD!!!! He's not 40, he's FIFTY!!! Oh, I did not see that shocker coming at all! (SUPER sarcasm here.) Is this book for real????!!!!
This "novel" is so freakin' ridiculously boring and predictable, the fact that they have the gall to title it "a gripping psychological thriller" is disgraceful. There is nothing "gripping" about a middle-aged professor seducing his students, It's common, predictable, and BORING. To call it "gripping" is such a farce, they should be given a huge fine for doing so.
There is NOTHING whatsoever gripping or suspenseful about this long, drawn out snoozer of nothing. The ending is so immature, I wondered if it wasn't written by an 18-yr-old who truly believes in her (usually married) old geezer of a boyfriend so much, that she chants to herself, "He LOVES ME! He really, really LOVES ME!!" If the information we learn about the professor in the last chapters is supposed to surprise us, I only have this to say: women have been there, men have done that, kazillions of times since the beginning of mankind. It's like trying to be shocked that men are interested in sex. Any female over 12 has that figured out long before this protagonist did.
The only emotion this book stirred in me, was rage over how fraudulent the description is, and my anger over it is prompting me to cancel my membership. It took forever to find a book to spend a credit on, and after being conned into using it on this bouquet of grass, I'm done being conned.
The only way you should waste time or money on this book is if you want to nominate it for "Worst Con" in the Worst Book Awards. The only shock here is that this drivel ever got published.
