He's a tenured Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Varghese is nationally recognized for his expertise in thoracic surgery, specializing in lung, esophageal, and mediastinal diseases, and is renowned for his work in minimally invasive techniques. He's a leader in health services and educational research, notably creating the Strong for Surgery program, now a formal Quality program of the American College of Surgeons. He's a prolific researcher with significant extramural funding, including leading a Phase III clinical trial funded by the National Cancer Institute. Additionally, he is engaged in promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within surgery. Dr. Varghese is a respected figure in digital media and serves as President-Elect of the Society of University Surgeons.
