Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

Story
Dylan, who began working on the book in 2010, offers his insight into the nature of popular music. He writes over sixty essays focusing on songs by other artists, spanning from Stephen Foster to Elvis Costello, and in between ranging from Hank Williams to Nina Simone. He analyzes what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal. These essays are written in Dylan’s unique prose. And while ostensibly about music, they are really meditations on the human condition.

Publisher's Summary
The long-awaited, enormously entertaining memoir by one of the great artists of our time.
In this candid and often hilarious memoir, the celebrated director, comedian, writer, and actor offers a comprehensive, personal look at his tumultuous life. Beginning with his Brooklyn childhood and his stint as a writer for the Sid Caesar variety show in the early days of television, working alongside comedy greats, Allen tells of his difficult early days doing standup before he achieved recognition and success. With his unique storytelling pizzazz, he recounts his departure into moviemaking, with such slapstick comedies as Take the Money and Run, and revisits his entire 60-year-long and enormously productive career as a writer and director, from his classics Annie Hall, Manhattan, and Hannah and Her Sisters to his most recent films, including Midnight in Paris. Along the way, he discusses his marriages, his romances, and his famous friendships, his jazz playing, and his books and plays. We learn about his demons, his mistakes, his successes, and those he loved, worked with, and learned from in equal measure.
This is a hugely entertaining, deeply honest, rich and brilliant self-portrait of a celebrated artist who is ranked among the greatest filmmakers of our time.

Audio vs Written word
Written with the humility and self deprecating humour that Woody excels at. If you are a fan of his work you’ll appreciate the auto biography. Reading the book would be an excellent experience but having Woody narrate it really ups the overall experience.

Woody isn't a big nerd afterall
Like most biographies...There's more to the person than you might know from tabloids and gossip shows. Great to hear Woody narrate his own story. Too bad that a lot of actors bailed on him because it was the politically correct thing to do....but that's Hollywood for ya!

Great job narrating an interesting life!
Thank goodness Woody narrated his autobiography because I can't imagine anyone else doing it as well as him. This was a very interesting listen, though admittedly it lacks any in-depth discussion of his craft. I guess that was to be expected from someone of his personality. However, his interesting life and career and all the characters in it more than make up for the lack of depth. Highly recommended!

Woody Allen never disappoints!!
I have always enjoyed Woody's deadpan humor that catches me in makes me laugh out loud! He is so understated that I don't always get it right away. Though he claims not to be clever, he's so obviously is!
Yes, there's more than I would have liked about the Mia Pharaoh thing, It's pretty obvious that he confirmed his innocence long ago. Though the me too movement has been important for many, there is inevitably going to be a small percentage of men, like Woody Allen, who unfortunately became a victim of the times. Apparently the old axim and that you are innocent until proven guilty, no longer stands. he was proven innocent but as he says, even though you are falsely accused, the character assassination still ensues.
Still, he relates an interesting and very full life.
Good for him.

Woody Allen’s incredibly lucky life
I am a Woody Allen fan and this book, narrated by him in his instantly recognizable New York accent is poignant, informative, well written and at times hilarious. I thought he came across as sincere, open and humble in his estimations of his own talents and of those he had the privilege of working with over the years. And yes, he covers the sandal and shows, to my mind, beyond any doubt that the alleged abuse never happened. In an case, Mr. Allen has brought a great deal of joy to my life over the years and I hope he continues to do so without judgement or condemnation for many years to come. High recommended.
