Publisher's Summary

The triumphant New York Times Best Seller * The Tonight Show Summer Reads Pick *

Named one of the best books of the year by People, Vogue, Parade, NPR, and Elle

“This is one beautiful book. I was wowed by Keane’s writing and narrative skill - and by what she knows about trouble.” (Stephen King)

How much can a family forgive?

Francis Gleeson and Brian Stanhope, rookie NYPD cops, are neighbors in the suburbs. What happens behind closed doors in both houses - the loneliness of Francis’s wife, Lena, and the instability of Brian’s wife, Anne, sets the stage for the explosive events to come.

In Mary Beth Keane's extraordinary novel, a lifelong friendship and love blossoms between Kate Gleeson and Peter Stanhope, born six months apart. One shocking night their loyalties are divided, and their bond will be tested again and again over the next 30 years. Heartbreaking and redemptive, Ask Again, Yes is a gorgeous and generous portrait of the daily intimacies of marriage and the power of forgiveness.

It's Going to get Better, Yes

struggled to finish. Did not enjoy the narrator. she put me to sleep most nights. The overall story was Ok. Although I chose the book to read in our book Club we all thought we should finish it as it had to get better. Not too sure of that decision.

Overall...boring.

Started out great...but lost me midway with too many (boring) stories about different characters.

Magnificent

I can’t remember when I enjoyed a family saga more. The characters all felt so real and I couldn’t wait to find out how their lives would unfold. An exceptional novel.

Good character development and engaging story

Believeable characters you can't help becoming attached to. Well researched and written. Excellent narration and grasp of Irish accent.

Excellent

I wasn't sure at first, not normally my thing.... Only "read" it because I was looking for something to read and my spouce mentioned that Jimmy Fallon on the tonight show was reading with his audience.... but midway through and definitely the last few chapters I just couldn't stop listening! Great read! Loved the different voices Molly Pope used for the different characters, amazing job.

it's a bleak tale

I really don't know what was the point of the story other than they do survive. It's a tale of ordinary people that have stuff of life happen around them and how they get through it. They may not thrive, but really, how many people do?
