Narrated by Viola Davis

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever.

This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. We are forced to reinvent them to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone running through life untethered, desperate and clawing their way through murky memories, trying to get to some form of self-love. For anyone who needs reminding that a life worth living can only be born from radical honesty and the courage to shed facades and be . . . you.

Finding Me is a deep reflection, a promise, and a love letter of sorts to self. My hope is that my story will inspire you to light up your own life with creative expression and rediscover who you were before the world put a label on you.

We think we are alone…truth is, we are not.

This book brought back memories of my own childhood.
It wasn’t until my 50s that I was able to love me and my 6 yr old self.
Thank you, Viola Davis for sharing your life. You are truly a strong and beautiful woman.

WOW! Sensational!!

Viola Davis is a phenomenal storyteller and an absolute marvel on the big screen. I consumed this book in less than a week because I was watching the movies/playwrights mentioned here...and my God has it been an emotional week (topped it off with the Woman King). This book had me crying, laughing, angry, gutted, and smiling from ear to ear. To hear her tell HER story of navigating through life gives us hope that no matter where you came from or the trauma that had happened to you - it does not define you, but you will need to face it eventually. I LOVE this book!!

Very captivating Biography!

One of the best books I have read in 2022!
Her story flies off the pages of this book. You can't hell but root for the children of 128. Very captivating and gut wrenching. The ultimate story survival against all odds.
It's my hope that this story makes it on to the
Big screen one day; to inspire generations to come..
Kudos to Viola!
This book reads like a Masterclass on how to survive Broadway, theater & film.

Captivating and honest

I listened to Viola’s truth as told by herself. It was humbling and real. I loved her talent and strength prior to listening and now I appreciate her more. Good on her for knowing what she really wanted and going out and achieving it… all! Well done

Engaged from her very first words!

Viola is as engaging in her book as she is on stage and screen. She is as compassionate as she is personable. I feel like I’m listening to a wise oak tree share a story that can both propel and ground you in its stories and its truth. Viola shares from her heart and through her strength revealing one of the softest consoling souls I’ve ever encountered. It was an honour to be drawn into her world, if only for a short while.

Gives me hope

Although the storyline was familiar, I did not not expect Viola’s voice to be absolutely perfect and easy to listen to. She should be reading others’ books. I would describe her voice to be the female version of Morgan Freeman, who is an excellent storyteller. I could not get enough. I listened to several chapters at a time while at the gym, cooking, etc.
Her evolution as a woman and as an actor is the most remarkable aspect of her story. I was especially moved by her stories of her parents, as imperfect as they were. I can relate. And it gives me such joy that she overcame so much adversity to find love and inner peace, with the perfect man, before welcoming their precious daughter.
