Publisher's Summary

Take the guesswork (and fear) out of fasting with real-life and expert advice.

In recent years, intermittent fasting - restricting calorie intake for a set number of hours or days - has become an increasingly popular diet strategy. While some in the medical community initially dismissed the idea as a dangerous fad, recent research not only validates the safety of fasting for weight loss but also offers compelling evidence of wide-ranging health benefits, from reversal of diabetes and other metabolic disorders to enhanced cognitive function and increased longevity.

But for many who are eager to try out fasting, the regimen can feel a bit intimidating. After all, abstaining from food doesn't sound like much fun. People rightly wonder: How often can I eat? Will I be able to focus at work? Will I have enough energy to exercise? And perhaps the most concerning question of all: Won't I be hungry all the time?!

Enter Dr. Jason Fung - world-renowned fasting expert - his colleague, Megan Ramos, and Eve Mayer, who has experienced the life-changing benefits of fasting through Dr. Fung's program. Together, they've teamed up to write a one-of-a-kind guide that answers the most common questions people have about fasting - and offers a customizable program that provides real results.

In Life in the Fasting Lane, Dr. Fung, Ramos, and Mayer take the listener by the hand and walk them through the basics of a fasting lifestyle - from the science behind fasting as a health and weight loss strategy to the real-life choices and dilemmas people commonly encounter. While Dr. Fung and Ramos explain the fundamentals of fasting and offer a customizable approach, Mayer shares her in-the-trenches perspective and hard-won knowledge as a success story who turned her life around with fasting.

With chapters that address everything from meal planning to mental strategies; exercise to socializing, Life in the Fasting Lane is a unique and accessible guide to developing a sustainable and beneficial fasting routine that offers dramatic, lifelong results.

Not as good as The Obesity Code but still worth reading

I have read five of Dr Fung’s books and they have changed my life . I’ve lost 60 pounds and am now in control of my weight. I am also an online member of his IDM web service. I enjoyed this book and it reinforced the precepts of his other books. However it wasn’t as impactful. If you haven’t read any of Dr Fung’s books before, this is a great book to start with. If you have read other of his books, it doesn’t really teach you anything new.

Good, informative, but...

If you haven't listened to any of the books by Dr. Fung et. al, I heartily recommend Life in the Fasting Lane. It's good, it's informative, and it gives excellent guidelines for dealing with obesity and its related metabolic issues.

HOWEVER, as a new book it's disappointing - it's pretty much a rehash of the previous books on fasting & weight loss from this team.

not a bad listen, some great information.

I reccomend setting the speed to 1.3 as they speak slowly.

TLDR: Good book, do research before adopting. Must read for doctors.

Full review:
Some of the science they talk about if you look up the scientific papers are put of date and new papers contradict some of the findings.

Although I know fasting works to lose weight you still need to keep in mind things like what your eating when your eating. nutritional supplements maybe required to make sure you are getting the vitamins you need and much more.

unfortuntaly there still is no simple single solution to healthy living, but fasting can help simplify it quite a bit, and make it much more manageable.

I hope this book opens your mind to the idea of a different diet and you do more research on your way to healthy living like myself.

I personally think every doctor should be required to read this book, so that they can open their minds and lose the calories in/out way of thinking.

Life in the fasting lane

Starts out with great content and lots of good information, then ventures to many personal stories and slowly becomes a story telling of fasting . Last few chapters are not informative

Somewhat misleading, but OK "how to" guide

I was a little disappointed, as the title headlined Jason Fung as the primary author. However most of the book consists of Ramos and Mayer sharing their personal backgrounds and failure with traditional dieting, and then success and practical advice on fasting. Fung was more of a contributor to the book. If you're interested in learning how to transition yourself into fasting, this is probably a good resource. If you're looking for more information on science behind fasting and why it works, I would refer to Dr. Fung's previous titles.

Don’t bother!! Sooooo Disappointed

I was so excited waiting for the book to come out! Because I read before the OBESITY CODE from Dr Jason Fung as well and loved it! Read that one instead!!!
What a sad surprise I got when almost the whole book is the story of this lady Eve Mayer and her addiction to food!!
It’s like her biography on food and she assumes that everyone the only thing we do is eat, cook or think about food!! No life no interests of any kind!!!
If you’re an active person and has a healthy approach on food most of the time, go buy a different book!
I couldn’t wait for this to finish to go exchange it!
I fast forward many times when she was again and again saying how she couldn’t control herself with sweets and hamburgers and bla bla bla!
Dr Fung barely speaks, there weren’t interesting facts or new ones to learn about fasting or what does to your body!
Who wants to hear a list of more than 25 things to do just to not think about food???? She listed things like call your mother, walk the dog, clean your house!! Seriously DO NOT waste your time or money!!
Can’t believe why Dr Fung put his name on this book just to help this lady tell her story of food addiction through all her life......

Read for Life

I've been so helped by this book. I had a near death injury that helped me get 189 pounds overweight. Following this book, I've lost 50 pounds and will continue to lose more, until I get back to my sexy 200 pounds. My wife is also so excited for me.

Loved it!!

This book along with the book obesity code has been the best thing that’s happened to me. I now fast twice a week for 48 hours both times, and I only eat two meals a day, and it’s a high fat, and high protein, and low carbs, and no sugar diet. I would never have thought in a billion years that I could do this, but I am, and I feel fantastic! I lost 10 pounds the first week and a few pounds every week after, thank you for making me believe in myself again!

The Ultimate Handbook for a Healthy Lifestyle

This book is a revolutionary MUST READ for every man, woman and adolescent. The three authors provide a concert of medical science, practical guidance and encouragement to get you started and keep you going on a fasting plan. This book is designed to give you just enough facts to make you a believer, (refer to Dr. Fung's Obesity book if you need more convincing!) and is layered with helpful tips and tricks to kick-start your intermittent fasting lifestyle. No judgements passed; quite the opposite! Whether you're struggling with weight; or you're a lean athlete simply wanting to become a healthier version of yourself, this book is for you. I cannot possibly encourage you strongly enough to listen to this book!! As a reasonably fit person most of my life, it was important to me to feed my children predominantly healthy meals, centered on vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. I've tried to keep fruits available and left the sugary snacks on the store shelves. Yet this book causes me to deeply wish for do-overs! If only I could re-raise my children; be given a second chance to instill intermittent fasting as a normal way of life for them. Although relatively fit and health conscious, my twenty-somethings have become grazers with a tendency to indulge in unhealthy carbs. As my husband and I embark on an intermittent fasting journey together (we just completed our first 24-hour fast) I will undoubtedly be returning to this book frequently for encouragement and words of wisdom to keep us motivated and focused on achieving our goals. I'm hoping our kids take notice and jump into the fasting lane with us. If you're looking for a book that is clear, succinct, and well-organized, look no further. This will serve you well an invaluable reference tool. Many thanks to the authors for sharing their knowledge and experiences!

Excellent guide but needs to know its audience

As a fan of the Obesity Code, and someone who still struggled to lose weight with keto, this book significantly helped with that as I haven't really fasted properly. Overall an excellent book, but I have to take off a couple points for some of the incredibly stupid parts where the "layman"where l writer keeps talking about food in mouth drooling detail while at the same time trying to drill in how important it is to view food as fuel only. I understand you're trying to make a point about how you used to view food as "love" but as a person who is currently trying their best to fast, the last thing I need to hear is how absolutely succulent and delicious a mouth-watering burger topped with delicious provolone cheese is. Like seriously, you wouldn't go to an alcoholic and talk about how absolutely delicious a certain cocktail is lol. She's not a bad writer at all, and is very helpful, but just needs to cool down on these descriptions lmao

WOW JUST WOW

I am a "regular" healthy person, not fat, not struggling with weight loss. 5'9" 170lbs.
I was just curious...and MAN O MAN..this fasting stuff is AMAZING..more energy, eat what I want and its really not that hard! I have turned friends on to this & we ALL got something useful from this book.
I listen to certain chapters over and over again.
Why in the heck doesn't everyone do some sort/version of fasting? THEY SHOULD!!

Beginner at Fasting

I've heard a lot about IF but I've always felt like when I would go too long without eating that I get light headed and need to eat with urgency. Because of that, I never thought I could fast. I recently received a pre-diabetic diagnosis from my doctor and decided it was time to learn more about IF. The science seems to suggest many positive outcomes including decreased blood sugar, which is what I'm looking for. After listening to this book, I gave it a shot. I didn't eat until 11am one day, after not having eaten since 6p the night before. When I did eat, it was low carb and high fiber, proteins, and fat. It was hard the first day, but the information on Ghrelin really made me think that what I was feeling wasn't actually hunger per se. I tried fasting a second day, skipped fasting on the third and then tried it 2 more days. At the end of the week I felt solid, not full of cravings like normal and so full of energy. I also feel like I now understand the difference in the feeling of real hunger vs cravings. That was a huge awakening. I don't write a lot of reviews, but even though I'm only in the first few weeks of this process I felt the need to call out this book as a great beginners guide, I do feel much better than I did. I have already seen a change in my body, not dropping lbs yet, but definitely a leaner me. Ready to move on to more information and finding out what this IF can really do.

Same Old Stuff

This book did not provide any new information that wasn't in Dr. Fung's previous books, and actually contained many of the same anecdotes. It is a waste of time if you've already read his other books.

Encourageant

Ce livre est encourageant, même si vous avez déjà lu ou écouté "The obesity code" et "The complete guide to fasting ".
