Publisher's Summary

From a renowned financial journalist who has written for Time, Fortune, Forbes, and The New Yorker, a fresh and unexpectedly profound book that draws on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with many of the world’s super-investors to demonstrate that the keys for building wealth hold other life lessons as well.

Billionaire investors. If we think of them, it’s with a mixture of awe and suspicion. Clearly, they possess a kind of genius - the proverbial Midas Touch. But are the skills they possess transferable? And do they have anything to teach us besides making money?

In Richer, Wiser, Happier, William Green draws on interviews that he’s conducted over 25 years with many of the world’s greatest investors. As he discovered, their talents extend well beyond the financial realm. The most successful investors are mavericks and iconoclasts who question conventional wisdom and profit vastly from their ability to think more rationally, rigorously, and objectively. They are master game players who consciously maximize their odds of long-term success in markets and life, while also minimizing any risk of catastrophe. They draw powerful insights from many different fields, are remarkably intuitive about trends, practice fanatical discipline, and have developed a high tolerance for pain. As Green explains, the best investors can teach us not only how to become rich, but how to improve the way we think, reach decisions, assess risk, avoid costly errors, build resilience, and turn uncertainty to our advantage.

Green ushers us into the lives of more than 40 super-investors, visiting them in their offices, homes, and even their places of worship - all to share what they have to teach us. Richer, Wiser, Happier brings together the thinking of many of the greatest investment minds, from Sir John Templeton to Charlie Munger, Jack Bogle to Ed Thorp, Will Danoff to Mohnish Pabrai, Bill Miller to Laura Geritz, Joel Greenblatt to Howard Marks. In explaining how they think and why they win, this landmark book provides gems of insight that will enrich you not only financially, but also professionally and personally.

Recommend for anyone with investments

A truly inspiring and interesting book for anyone contemplating investing. The variety of interviews and depth of knowledge presented is impressive. I would also recommend listening to the podcasts the author has appeared on to discuss the book. It stands to reason that if you are investing you should learn how some of the best have done it.

Really great listen

This was a great book on investing. Maybe not so much how to go about it, but the mental principles and how some of the greatest investors have struggled with the ups and downs. The compilation of interviews included in this book is amazing! There was inspirational content, comments that irritated me, other experiences that almost made me cry, but overall I really enjoyed the solid principles that most of these investors had in common that lead them to greatness over the last 100 years. It was not a boring book and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about the lives of some of the best investors and what they learned and wish to share with the rest of us. Also, I'm not a huge fan of British accents on audio books, but the narrator was easy to get used to, and after the first chapter it seemed natural for him to be one presenting the book.

Excellent Work of Art

William Green’s book “Richer, Wiser, Happier”, is an excellently written book. In reading the first couple of chapters, it is apparent the book fleshes out years of exhaustive and thorough research on each successful investor. Not only do we get to know each investor in what made them tick, but their methods of value investing that made them successful are fleshed out in detail. I highly recommend William’s book as a MUST-READ for any serious investor to add to their library. I have read several books on value investing, and William’s book certainly rises to the top as one of the best page-turners I have read in a long time. The audible version has an excellent narrator that appropriately adjusts pitch, tone, and even accents to quote different investors. William’s book will remain on my iPhone for me to listen to again at will as it is not only educational but highly enjoyable and an obvious work of art!

Understand Their Thinking and Clone Their Practices

Balanced between how to grow financial and spiritual wealth over time. If just starting out as an investor, read this before reading the books by the investors that Green interviewed. Excellent narrative plus focused principles from lessons learned for practical application. This book is not technical in investment analysis but covers personal perspectives and value investing principles well. Tenets of simplicity, diligence, patience, mindfulness and charity come together.

An in depth interview on some of the greatest in investing

Simply one of the best business books ever written and narrated. Raphael Corkhill narration makes the book worth listening than reading.

Great book spoiled by terrible narration.

This is an interesting and informative book based on years of research and many interviews of expert practitioners of the art of investing. Overall I liked it very much, but the experience was definitely spoiled by the melodramatic, soft-porn-type narration. I learned a lot, but for my second time through I will be using the print copy.

Filled with great knowledge

This was such a great listen that I went and bought the book. So many lessons to take away from each person interviewed that the audio book clips would not help me find each part.

Loved the book, less fan of the narrator

The book itself is very good. It provides a lot of very good insight. The narrator is a bit too much
