Publisher's Summary

"Narrator Suzy Jackson's assured, brassy tones and forceful delivery are an exceptional match for Sanderson's high-stakes, battle-driven space opera.... Jackson's gift for characterizations shines - she brings out the humor and heroism in Spensa's young classmates and friends (and the neurotic spaceship MBOT), along with the pain and perseverance of the generations that came before them. This is a high-octane futuristic narrative of hope, sacrifice, and courage, and a fast pace speaks to the rising urgency as war rages above the planet. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award." (AudioFile magazine)

From Brandon Sanderson, the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Reckoners series, Words of Radiance, and the internationally best-selling Mistborn series, comes the first book in an epic new series about a girl who dreams of becoming a pilot in a dangerous world at war for humanity's future.

Spensa's world has been under attack for decades. Now pilots are the heroes of what's left of the human race, and becoming one has always been Spensa's dream. Since she was a little girl, she has imagined soaring skyward and proving her bravery. But her fate is intertwined with her father's - a pilot himself who was killed years ago when he abruptly deserted his team, leaving Spensa's chances of attending flight school at slim to none.

No one will let Spensa forget what her father did, yet fate works in mysterious ways. Flight school might be a long shot, but she is determined to fly. And an accidental discovery in a long-forgotten cavern might just provide her with a way to claim the stars.

Definitely getting the next one.

Initially, I wanted to strangle the heroine. Sanderson wrote her on the edge of insufferable. But the longer I read, the more I remembered being 16 and the overly dramatic way of thinking I had as well. The saving grace here is that the character is not stupidly insufferable - she thinks, and learns, and tries to grow. Her opponents/villains are similar; initially one dimensional but becoming more human as the novel goes on. Really pleased with this one.

Absolutely Incredible

As always, Sanderson’s world building is beyond imagining—don’t know how this guy does it.

I finished this book in an almost non-stop session. Completely engrossed. Highly recommend for its fast paced intrigue, it’s action, it’s character building and beautiful detail.

Not just for young adults

Great book. Exceptionally well narrated. Like several other reviewers it was hard to turn off. I got to the last two hours and put my ear buds in and spent the rest of the night to finish it. Rarely a dull moment.

Fantastic!

This book was recommended based on my liking of Ready Player One and I can say that I am happy to have listened to the recommendation. The story is fantastic, and gives just enough detail to keep your rapt attention as you move to the climax where all is revealed. The narrator does a good job of keeping the characters separate and giving personality to their descriptions. I’m looking forward to the continuation of the series.

WAIT till summer 2021 to read this series!!!

Brandon Sanderson is not planning to release book 3 until summer 2021.
I would definitely say NOT to read these books until then, or else suffer the wait after the Truly CRUEL cliffhanger as I do >_<

I have over 200 titles on Audible, and this series is definitely in my top 10 that I've read, even though I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi.

join Spencer a 17 year old feisty girl who yearns to become a starship pilot, but is shunned at every turn because of her slandered family name.
Spencer is apart of the only known pocket of humanity left in the galaxy, that has has been stranded on an alien planet named Detritus for Generations, and r being threatened day by day by a force only known as, The Krell.... Who aren't what they seem to be...

Great book

Great book, overall

The start does feel like a typical immature teenager story, but the latter book off the book is excellent.

Performer/narrator did an excellent job.

Literally listened to the last 12 hours in one go

I couldn’t stop. Once again Brandon Sanderson took me to another place. I’ve always felt that when something has been truly well put together, at the end you feel like your emotions have been ripped from your body and all that’s left is a hollow emptiness that makes you want to cry. This book, as so many of his others have done in the past, made me feel those feelings. If you’re on the fence about trying this one out take it from an avid fantasy and sci-fi reader that you will not regret this one!

A good book worth a buy!

Do you like space ships? Do you like suspense and comedy? Well this is a book for you!

I read it in book form but Suzy Jackson’s performants makes every character feel truly alive!

The story may end on an unsatisfactory note but if you like this book(and you do like this book) all you need to do is get star sight and then wait impatiently for the next one!
