The Thursday Murder Club

In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together, they call themselves the Thursday Murder Club.

When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to the body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it's too late?

What the critics say

“An amusing debut that finds gold in getting older.”—People

“If you like a good mystery but also want to laugh and go 'aw,' the Thursday Murder Club books by Richard Osman are definitely for you.”Daisy Rosario, NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour

“[A] jaunty mystery. . . What's delightful is that there are no stereotypes here—the senior citizens solve the murder with wit, style and ferocious intelligence. The puzzle is intricate and involving, but there's a breeziness about it that makes it an ideal hammock read.”NPR

Loved it.

The characters are vivid and delightful, the writing is funny and smart, and the reading by Lesley Manville is terrific. It’s a book full of love and kindness (and murder). A much appreciated escape from the real world right now.

Great characters in a well-paced story

I enjoyed this mystery for the characters, who were such fun people with real personalities, lots of variety and depth. The plot was a bit scattered, with a few too many backstories trying to play on the reader's emotions. However, the whole thing hung together well, moved at a nice pace, and wrapped up in a tidy way.

I couldn’t put it down

It starts of gently meandering in a quirky fun way and then all of a sudden you realize it’s past midnight but you just have to know what happens next! The performance is fantastic and I’m so glad to see there is more in the series.

Funny, sweet, devious...all kinds of characters that soon become part of your life.
You won't want the story to end.

One of the Best

An absolutely brilliant first novel, but honestly, no one else could have done the job that Lesley Manville does in narrating it. She makes each and every character come alive with their very own voice and mannerisms.
Highly recommended--can’t wait for the sequel, The Man Who Died Twice. Kudos, Richard Osman!

How much fun was this. Thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Oh gosh I want to meet them all. The weaving of loveable characters and stories are brilliant. The author notes at the end most enjoyable. Definitely will go to second one. The fun continues.

Fantastic!

Absolutely brilliant book, could not stop listening. So many twists and turns that threw me (in a fabulous way), keeping me guessing to the very end. I have already loaded the 2nd book and have to end here so I can start it!
Really enjoyed Leslie Manville as well, 5 stars!
