Upgrading Your Brand (Series #1: Chat with my College Child on Career, Commerce & Culture)

Written by: tony astro
  • Summary

  • I started in the field of career counseling in 2000 until 2014. But when I left that field to become the Marketing Director of Mvoss Creation, I started merging my "Product Branding" to "Personal Branding".

I did not want to impose some of these skills in giving advice but rather make it more personal by addressing my "counsels" or advice to my son who is now going into college.

But then, as teenagers, they would rather listen to their high school counselor which I think is smarter and more appropriate as I am now "rusty" on that part of counseling.

But as I continue to evolve in the broader field of career & commerce, as well as culture - I thought I can bring these thoughts and "bottle them up" in case my son gets into the "ocean or sea" of information and stumble one of these VLOGS or Podcast.

These podcasts originally appeared as weekly VLOG with my dog Daisy (she passed away in 2019) and now Blinky during my daily morning walk.

  • Grow Powerful in Obstacles, Fears & Failure (GPOFF) - September 22
    Oct 13 2021

    Son,

We all have abilities to create opportunities by creating them and bring value into them.

I failed many times as a student (got an F on Accounting in college, you know about my Ph.D. took 8 years that I rake student loans and failed dissertation) and as a counselor (forced to retirement) BUT all these made me stronger and less scared to take risks.

Here are some pointers from being perseverant, have a growth mindset (being open to ideas), let fear drive you instead of stopping you. Failure is a big part of success in everything I did in my 55 years of living.

  • Boundaries to Have Peace & Real Connections (BHPRC) - September 1
    Oct 11 2021

    Son,

We all need boundaries or else we will be burned out, abused, and worst, not have true peace & real connections with people and our loved ones.

Here is the first version but due to some audio issues, I have to do it again in my office because I think it is important to set boundaries now that you are getting ready for college.

  • Communicate Issues to Stay Happily Married
    Oct 11 2021

Confronting issues is the secret to stay happily married.

Please don't misconstrue my word of "Confront", maybe the better word is Approach, clear, communicate or "Not Deny" the negative issues that are looming in our relationship as your parents & as husband to your mother.

Being married is not easy and I am still learning. Here are just a few things I learned in our 18 years of being married: "Confront" issues to stay happily married.
