But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

BEST BOOK TO READ AS A TEENAGER
- Écrit par CC le 2019-05-11
Auteur(s): Stephen R. Covey
Description
The updated edition of the best-selling book that has changed millions of lives with its insights into the growth mindset.
“Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.” (Bill Gates, GatesNotes)
After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, PhD, discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset - those who believe that abilities are fixed - are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset - those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment.
In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love - to transform their lives and your own.
Ce que les critiques en disent
“A good book is one whose advice you believe. A great book is one whose advice you follow. This is a book that can change your life, as its ideas have changed mine.” (Robert J. Sternberg, co-author of Teaching for Wisdom, Intelligence, Creativity, and Success)
“An essential read for parents, teachers [and] coaches...as well as for those who would like to increase their own feelings of success and fulfillment.” (Library Journal, starred review)
“Everyone should read this book.” (Chip Heath and Dan Heath, authors of Made to Stick)

Mindblown.
After reading this book, I now know what I need to do in order to achieve my goals and fulfill my dreams in life. My eyes have been opened to a better way of thinking, and I know what I need to do to get there. Instead of hoping my dreams come true, as I did so much in my past, I will from now on learn and work hard to achieve my goals.
Thank you Carol! :)

Fantastic contents; subpar narrator
I loved this book and it was absolutely worth listening to. It was laser focused on delivering a clear picture of what a growth mindset is, its counterpart (the “fixed” mindset), and how to grapple with the two in your own life.
I personally had a difficult time trying to get into the rhythm of the narrator’s voice, which was a little too “uptight” for me.
Regardless, I’d listen to the book again, because there are many phenomenal demonstrations of how a growth mindset can help affect change in any number of domains.
Thanks Dr. Dweck for the amazing work! Keep growing! 💪
