From playing football at the age of 10 to being in his 4th year as a professional player, he finds it very important to find a balance between social life and academics, especially juggling with the IB curriculum during his pivotal years of football training. Yet, this comes with sacrifices. Despite inevitable comparisons with peers, with determination, and a goal driven mindset, he strives to focus on himself and his journey with football, and plays to not please others but himself. Herman suggests that once we have set a goal for ourselves, it is best to walk the path down and not to be easily distracted by external environments/stimuli. He also thinks that communication with parents and schools is key to maintaining support for the schedule of professional student athletes, such as the transparency from students themselves and understanding, as well as empathy from parents and schools.
