One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Publisher's Summary
Have you spent weeks, months, or even years trying to achieve your goals but keep failing? Have you given up on becoming successful because your futile efforts have led you to believe that success is only for the select few?
If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions - don’t worry, there is still hope for you!
Before you can achieve anything in life, you need a solid foundation of self-discipline. Talent, intelligence, and skill are only a part of the equation. Positive thinking, affirmations, and vision boards are only a part of the equation. If you want to turn your dreams into reality, you need self-discipline.
Self-discipline is what will keep you focused when all hell is breaking loose, and it looks like you are one step away from failure. It will give you the mental toughness required to dismantle the limitations you have placed on yourself and all obstacles standing in the way of your goals.
How would you feel if I told you that your inability to achieve your goals does not arise because you are lazy or lack drive, but rather it’s a problem because you have never been taught how to practice self-discipline? People are not born with self-discipline. Like driving or playing tennis, it’s a skill that you learn.
In The Power of Discipline you will discover:
- How to master self-discipline by targeting certain areas of the brain
- What is the Navy SEALs’ secrets to self-discipline
- What are the Zen Buddhists’ secrets to self-discipline
- How to ditch your bad habits and adopt the habits of successful people
- What are the strategies to keep going when your motivation runs out
It’s impossible to buy back the time you have lost, but you can take control of your future.

I love this book! #MustHave
I can't recommend it enough to everyone who wants to succeed in life. The power of Discipline is necessary to achieve our goals and dreams. Without discipline, it's impossible to achieve anything worthwhile. This book also teaches how to use negative emotions to your advantage like fear, failure, shame, guilt, anxiety, sadness etc.
I shared to a couple of my friends. This book is very informative and helpful. You won't regret buying this one.

A light introduction to many concepts
This book is a light introduction to many different concepts related to self improvement. It summarizes what other content has covered in more depth. Each chapter covers 1 to 2 topics at a very introductory depth. I think this book could be helpful if one was trying to figure out which aspects of self improvement they wanted to learn more about and implement to improve their lives. Once you've narrowed down and decide which parts were most interesting to you, I think you'd want to but books related to those specific topics to learn much more in depth about them. It's definitely a starting point and summary of a lot of different ideas in the genre. It didn't contain a lot of helpful information for me, it was mostly information I'd already read in other books.

I love this book. I struggle with discipline of my thoughts--ruminating over things and being harsh on myself. My discipline over physical tasks is actually something I'm proud of. However, thoughts, in my opinion, are a much harder area to tackle. Great book with a lot of helpful material!
