Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Publisher's Summary
A mother’s greatest wish—or darkest nightmare—comes true in this chilling classic audiobook thriller from the Master of Suspense, Dean Koontz.
“Koontz puts his readers through the emotional wringer.”–The Associated Press
In the year since her son Danny’s tragic death, Tina Evans has suffered incredible heartache. But now, with her Vegas show about to premiere, Tina might be ready to put her grief behind her and start over.
Until a shocking message appears on the chalkboard in Danny's room: NOT DEAD. Those two words send her on a terrifying journey from the bright lights of Las Vegas to the cold shadows of the High Sierras, where she uncovers a terrible secret.
Editorial Review
Losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare. Tina Evans is grieving her son Danny after he died in a tragic bus accident. One year later, she swore she saw him in a stranger’s car. Could her son still be alive? Tina goes on a quest to find out the truth—and discovers a terrifying secret. Some things can be worse than death... This gripping thriller will keep the listener on the edge of their seat from the first second to the last. Narrator Tanya Eby’s energetic and youthful voice captivates and carries the suspense of each dramatic moment. Eby is a USA Today best-selling author and an Audie Award-winning narrator of more than 650 audiobooks. She is also an active blogger, a novelist and the owner of Blunder Woman Productions, an Indie audiobook publishing company. The Eyes of Darkness writer Dean Koontz started to create stories when he was a teen. His skillful detail in building the tension and terror throughout his thrillers has seduced audiences everywhere. Koontz has written more than 105 titles and has sold over 450 million copies worldwide. The popular horror novelist is the creator of countless #1 New York Times best sellers that have inspired many film adaptations. Published in 1981, The Eyes of Darkness saw a surge in popularity in 2020 after a passage from the book purportedly predicted the real-world outbreak of the coronavirus. Indeed, the book mentions a virus called “Wuhan-400”, although that’s where the similarities with the coronavirus end.

the story was fine. but the narrator was somewhere between a children's book and an automated announcement over a speaker system voice. it was impossible to listen all the way through unfortunately.

Good Book
Once I started listening to this book I couldn't stop. This book is fast paced and full of wonder. The protagonist (and company) went through so much emotional suffering, yet were still able to be successful.
