Publisher's Summary

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, Margaret Mitchell's great novel of the South is one of the most popular books ever written. Within six months of its publication in 1936, Gone With the Wind had sold a million copies. To date, it has been translated into 25 languages, and more than 28 million copies have been sold.

Here are the characters that have become symbols of passion and desire: darkly handsome Rhett Butler and flirtatious Scarlett O'Hara. Behind them stand their gentler counterparts: Ashley Wilkes and Melanie Hamilton. As the lives and affairs of these absorbing characters play out against the tumult of the Civil War, Gone With the Wind reaches dramatic heights that have swept generations of fans off their feet.

Having lived in Atlanta for many years, narrator Linda Stephens has an authentic ear for the dialects of that region. Get ready to hear Gone With the Wind exactly as it was written: every word beautifully captured in a spectacular unabridged audio production.

Brilliant!

Right up there with Withering Heights. A classic everyone should enjoy. Margaret Mitchell has a wonderful grasp of history and the Civil War.

A classic

This tome is exceptional, but the listener must remember it was written in a different time, the racially charged language and situations are shocking if you’ve never read this book or watched the movie/
A classic that, for its time, is timeless.

New Favorite

FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE! Linda Stephens makes sure you know who is speaking with her take on their voices, and it really makes this book fantastic.
I loved this story, but I'm not sure that I would have loved it as much without Linda dictating it.

A must read

Excellent book. So much better than the movie. So detailed and you have to follow it up with SCARLETT another winner.

A bit long-winded.

I recall enjoying the book tremendously when I read it decades ago. But for the life of me I couldn't remember much of the story, except the background of the civil war, and of course, the famous punch line. Most unusual for me. There are other books that I read in my youth, and which I quite clearly remember. Some of them of approximate equal length. Surprising, and I wonder why, considering the fame this book still enjoys.

Yet, I probably appreciated the story and vivid, deep description of human emotions, foibles, pretensions, as well as the baring of same, much more so now. I doubt I'll forget the story so quickly again.
