About this listen

Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together.

In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

Best book I've listen this year

Yes he talks about finance but this is basically life explained. Maybe I'm partial because his point of views dit with mine but the perspective is well worth it.

Decent but very American focused

Overall I enjoyed this book and it's antidotes. However it's focus was very much centred on how Americans approach money, especially in the last few chapters of the book.

An important lesson for our times

Wow! Truly blown away!

There’s such a mix of rational and anthropological reasoning for why we make the decisions we do. At its core, the book tells you to forget the Jones’, save a lot of your money, provide a serious advocate for time being your friend in the investment world - with enough credence to margin of errors factored in but the stories and insights make you take a serious look at yourself in the mirror and make personal pledges that will hopefully dictate your strategies in life.

This should be required reading or listening for everyone and I hope that I will continue to come back to this time and again to reinforce some valuable lessons.

As far as investments go - there’s few better ways to spend your time, money and energy!
