Get centered and de-stress
I’ll be honest: I used to find the concept of meditation slightly intimidating. I had heard of all the benefits to both physical and mental health, but just wasn’t sure where to begin. Both accessible and personable, Professor Muesse’s course introduced me to the concept of mindfulness and inspired me to begin a daily meditation practice. It’s not always easy taking time to care for your mind, but the results speak for themselves: I haven't felt this calm in years.

If you could only choose one meditation book this would be it
Since initially listening to this book, I've also listened to several others regarding meditation and Buddhism. I find myself repeatedly going back to listen to sections of this book for clarification of ideas and concepts. The multiple interludes in the book seem to be the most useful. The book also gives you a good feel for what to expect at different stages of meditative development and how to overcome challenges. Without the information in this book a person would need a very highly qualified meditation teacher to be able to properly understand and navigate the various stages. This is a very useful book!

We now make up more than half the workforce in the United States and are busier than ever with partners, children, family and friends, often putting the needs of others ahead of our own. And if we feel overwhelmed by it all or fall short of perfection, many of us have learned to be our own worst critic rather than our own best friend. In Warrior Goddess Training, best-selling author HeatherAsh Amara provides the antidote to the flawed idea that you are not enough.

Major Ernest Pettigrew (Ret’d) is not interested in the frivolity of the modern world. Since his wife Nancy’s death, he has tried to avoid the constant bother of nosy village women; his grasping, ambitious son; and the ever-spreading suburbanisation of the English countryside, preferring to lead a quiet life upholding the values that people have lived by for generations. But when his brother’s death sparks an unexpected friendship with Mrs Ali, the widowed village shopkeeper of Pakistani descent, the Major is drawn out of his regimented world.

In Happy Derren Brown explores changing concepts of happiness - from the surprisingly modern wisdom of the Stoics and Epicureans in classical times right up until today, when the self-help industry has attempted to claim happiness as its own. He shows how many of self-help’s suggested routes to happiness and success – such as positive thinking, self-belief and setting goals – can be disastrous to follow and, indeed, actually cause anxiety. Happy aims to reclaim happiness and to enable us to appreciate the good things in life, in all their transient glory.

In 2001 Mo Gawdat realized that despite his incredible success, he was desperately unhappy. A lifelong learner, he attacked the problem as an engineer would: examining all the provable facts and scrupulously applying logic. Eventually, his countless hours of research and science proved successful, and he discovered the equation for permanent happiness. Thirteen years later, Mo's algorithm would be put to the ultimate test. After the sudden death of his son, Ali, Mo and his family turned to his equation—and it saved them from despair.

Mindfulness and being aware are becoming more and more common these days. In our fast-paced world, where we feel like we're being pulled a million different ways at once, this is quite true. Remember that life is more than just going from one thing to the next quickly. It's also about taking a moment to enjoy the present. What awareness is all about is focusing your attention on something and not judging yourself. This practice goes to a whole new level when we know how our thoughts, feelings, and deeds change our lives.

Many people think of meditation as a peaceful practice that you undertake in a quiet spot, away from the noise and commotion of regular life. It's not simply sitting stationary on a cushion; it genuinely fits into the flow of daily life. Meditating every day may help us be more peaceful, attentive, and present in our everyday lives. It helps turn such periods into an opportunity to connect and gain clarity. When things become hectic and there are a lot of things to do, it's tempting to hurry through the day without really enjoying it.

For a long time, people have considered that meditation is one of the finest things you can do for your mind, body, and soul. Even though it's been around for a long time, meditation is still popular. It could help you find tranquility in a world that can be quite hectic and stressful. You can't just shut your eyes and be motionless; you have to truly attempt to look within, pay attention to yourself, and notice things that are different from what you usually do.

I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.
