Story
Cassie Hanwell was born for emergencies. As one of the only female firefighters in her Texas firehouse, she's seen her fair share of them, and she's excellent at dealing with other people's tragedies. But when her estranged and ailing mother asks her to uproot her life and move to Boston, it's an emergency of a kind Cassie never anticipated. The tough, old-school Boston firehouse is as different from Cassie's old job as it could possibly be. Hazing, a lack of funding, and poor facilities mean that the firemen aren't exactly thrilled to have a "lady" on the crew.

Hi, my name is Bree Camden, and I’m hopelessly in love with my best friend and star quarterback Nathan Donelson (so is half of America, judging by the tabloids and how much the guy dates). The first step is admitting it, right? Except, I can never admit it to him because he clearly doesn’t see me that way, and the last thing I want is for things to get weird between us. Nothing but good old-fashioned no-touching-the-sexiest-man-alive platonic friendship for us! Everything is exactly how I like it! Yes. Good. (I’m not crying; I’m just peeling an onion.)

When Noah Walker finds Amelia on his front lawn in her broken-down car, he makes it clear he doesn’t have the time or patience for celebrity problems. Despite his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room—but only until her car is fixed—then she’s on her own.

The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down.

Publisher's Summary
From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes an unforgettable audiobook about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances.
Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment. In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity and who sees her like no one has seen her before.
Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.
How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best - a masterpiece of an audiobook that is both hopeful and hilarious, truthful and wise, tender and brave.

Another Wonderful Story
Love the way Ms Center writes. I learn something new in each of her books. This is the 4th book of hers that I have read and I have enjoyed them all. Her narrators are great too. I will continue to re-read them too. Thanks.

A great read
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The premise didn't really reel me in initially, but the reviews were good so I gave it a shot. I got hooked pretty quick. The story was engaging and the writing style was fun and easy to get into. It was sweet and uplifting, but it had a good amount of tension, humor, and sad stuff, which keep it from feeling saccharine. The main characters were all likeable, and I found myself really rooting for them, which isn't super normal for me in my limited experience reading chick lit. Therese Plummer's narration was a great fit for this story too, she really brought it to life. All in all a great read.

Fluff writing aside, that narrator completely missed the mark with the Scottish accent and made it very hard to listen to. . COMPLETELY
