The New York Times best-selling author of The Widow returns with a brand new novel of twisting psychological suspense about every parent's worst nightmare....

When two 18-year-old girls go missing in Thailand, their families are thrust into the international spotlight - desperate, bereft, and frantic with worry. What were the girls up to before they disappeared?

Journalist Kate Waters always does everything she can to be first to the story, first with the exclusive, first to discover the truth - and this time is no exception. But she can't help thinking of her own son, whom she hasn't seen in two years, when he left home to travel. As the case of the missing girls unfolds, they will all find that even when it seems far away, danger can lie closer to home than one might think....

What the critics say

“The exceedingly twisty tale...will test Kate, and her painfully conflicting loyalties, to the limit. Barton’s many fans will be rewarded.” (Publishers Weekly)

“[The Suspect] succeeds as a story about mothers, how fierce their love can be when their children’s lives are in jeopardy.” (The New York Journal of Books)

“Barton is a stunning storyteller. Her career as a journalist has helped make this story terrifyingly real. Every turn of the plot feels authentic and very scary.” (Library Journal, starred review)

a worthwhile listen

it was a good read. I didn't find it as engaging as her first two books but it was still a good story that had some unexpected twists. if you have read and enjoyed her other Kate Waters stories then this is a good choice.

Fabulous

I love a good mystery that is filled with unexpected twists and turns. I particularly appreciated the different voices telling their parts of the whole.

One is kept on edge right until the very last minute. Nothing is certain. Nothing is predictable. The answers are in the small details. Loved listening to the way the story revealed itself.

no need to add accents

not a fan of the weird accents they use for the Thai characters, not sure what that was all about.
