About this listen

"You'll not only break the ice, you'll melt it away with your new skills." -Larry King

"The lost art of verbal communication may be revitalized by Leil Lowndes." -Harvey McKay, author of How to Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive

What is that magic quality that makes some people instantly loved and respected? Everyone wants to be their friend (or, if single, their lover). In business, they rise swiftly to the top of the corporate ladder. What is their “Midas touch?”

What it boils down to is a more skillful way of dealing with people.

The author has spent her career teaching people how to communicate for success. In her book How to Talk to Anyone, Lowndes offers 92 easy and effective sure-fire success techniques - she takes the listener from first meeting all the way up to sophisticated techniques used by the big winners in life. In this information-packed audiobook you’ll find:

  • 9 ways to make a dynamite first impression
  • 14 ways to master small talk, “big talk,” and body language
  • 14 ways to walk and talk like a VIP or celebrity
  • 6 ways to sound like an insider in any crowd
  • 7 ways to establish deep subliminal rapport with anyone
  • 9 ways to feed someone’s ego (and know when NOT to!)
  • 11 ways to make your phone a powerful communications tool
  • 15 ways to work a party like a politician works a room
  • 7 ways to talk with tigers and not get eaten alive

In her trademark entertaining and straight-shooting style, Leil gives the techniques catchy names so you’ll remember them when you really need them, including: “Rubberneck the Room,” “Be a Copyclass,” “Come Hither Hands,” “Bare Their Hot Button,” “The Great Scorecard in the Sky,” and “Play the Tombstone Game,” for big success in your social life, romance, and business.

How to Talk to Anyone, which is an update of her popular book, Talking the Winner's Way (see the 5-star reviews of the latter) is based on solid research about techniques that work!

By the way, don't confuse How to Talk to Anyone with one of Leil's previous books, How to Talk to Anybody About Anything. This one is completely different!

Unenjoyable and not very useful

She tried to use every single word of her thesaurus and it shows (in the worst of ways - it made her annoying and less credible in my opinion). She also repeated “gobeldygook” a record breaking amount of times which I found increasingly annoying with each repetition.
Overall it is very dated, which becomes even more obvious when she mentions using a Rolodex. The vocabulary made me feel like I was taking useless business advice from my great grandmother, and I only found maybe 10-20% of the “tricks” useful or realistic in today’s world.
If you’re already a sufficient communicator, I’d say it’s probably not worth wasting your time or an audible credit on this one.

Be humble and pick up a few new tricks.

Very helpful, charisma is timeless. Taking time to hear others talk about a subject you already know a lot about will simply sharpen you and encourage old things you’ve forgotten.

Excellent, timeless advice!

Perhaps for you to avoid, if you think there are more than two genders though.

Some great, some bad

There were some excellent points made in this book. At the same time there were some that were bad and left me scratching my head. Overall the good points well out weighed the bad ones. Would recommend this book

Practical, Useful, and Effective

"How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships" by Leil Lowndes is a self-help book that offers practical advice on how to improve communication skills in a variety of settings, from personal relationships to professional settings.

The book is organized into 92 brief chapters, each of which focuses on a specific communication technique. These techniques range from how to make a good first impression to how to be a good listener, and are illustrated with real-life examples and anecdotes that make the advice feel relatable and applicable.

One of the strengths of the book is the way in which Lowndes breaks down complex communication skills into easy-to-understand steps. She offers concrete advice on how to use body language, tone of voice, and other nonverbal cues to communicate effectively, as well as tips on how to navigate social situations with confidence and poise.

Another strength of the book is Lowndes' engaging writing style. She is witty and insightful, and her anecdotes and examples make the book an enjoyable read. However, some readers may find the sheer number of tips and techniques overwhelming, and may struggle to apply them all in practice.

Overall, "How to Talk to Anyone" is a useful and informative guide for anyone looking to improve their communication skills. While the book may not be for everyone, those who are willing to put in the effort to apply the advice will likely see significant improvements in their ability to connect with others and build successful relationships.
