Story
Ask and It Is Given is certainly a book about our ''asking'' being answered by all-that-is. But it's primarily about how whatever we're asking for is being given to us - and it's also the first book to ever, in such clear terminology, give us the simple practical formula for how to ask for, and then how to receive, whatever we want to be, do, or have. Decades ago, while searching for plausible answers to my never-ending quest to know what ''it'' is all about, I discovered the word ineffable (meaning ''incapable of being expressed in words'').

Story
Instead of being merely the receiver of the parents' psychological and spiritual legacy, children function as ushers of the parents' development. Parents unwittingly pass on an inheritance of psychological pain and emotional shallowness. To handle the behavior that results, traditional books on parenting abound with clever techniques for control and quick fixes for dysfunction. In Dr. Shefali Tsabary's conscious approach to parenting, however, children serve as mirrors of their parents' forgotten self.

Publisher's Summary
In her latest book, The Universe Has Your Back, New York Times best-selling author Gabrielle Bernstein teaches listeners how to transform their fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. Each story and lesson in the book guides listeners to release the blocks to what they most long for: happiness, security, and clear direction. The lessons help listeners relinquish the need to control so they can relax into a sense of certainty and freedom. Listeners will learn to stop chasing life and truly live. Making the shift from fear to faith will give listeners a sense of power in a world that all too often makes them feel utterly powerless. When the tragedies of the world seem overwhelming, this book will help guide them back to their true power.
Gabrielle says, "My commitment with this book is to wake up as many people as possible to their connection to faith and joy. In that connection, we can be guided to our true purpose: to be love and spread love. These words can no longer be cute buzz phrases that we merely post on social media. Rather, these words must be our mission. The happiness, safety, and security we long for lies in our commitment to love."
When listeners follow this path, they'll begin to feel a swell of energy move through them. They will find strength when they are down, synchronicity and support when they're lost, safety in the face of uncertainty, and joy when they are otherwise in pain. Follow the secrets revealed in this book to unleash the presence of your power and know always that The Universe Has Your Back.

Disappointing
I’m disappointed that my credit went to this book. I believe in the message of the book and although it seems that the author is genuine in her endeavour to deliver the message. It was extremely vague when it came to practising the material. She made it seem incredibly easy to just snap your fingers, say a mantra and switch your vibration and mindset. She also used vague terminology to describe the process of centring yourself/raising your vibration etc. She kept saying “come back to love”, which just seems to be an over generalization. I feel that there are much better books out there with more details about the “how to” become more spiritual. Would my recommend this to anybody.

Hire a professional reader
The author narrates her work and she sounds like a bored teenager forced to read out loud in English class. Her mono intonation coupled with poor rythym control makes the audio book a dull affair. My advice, hire a professional narrator.

Keep Forgetting You're Not All Alone?
I'd hit a brick wall, going about 180 mph. Three neighbors moved out, with all that noise, clamoring, moving vans, hustle. There were raccoons in the attic. The landlords decided that NOW would be a great time to fix up the places, complete with industrial tools, laughing, trucks, mayhem. It's still going on, and I work nights, so I'm completely sleep-deprived. And have a short fuse, am liable to burst into tears if you look at me cross-eyed. Oh, and then the raccoons decided that IN the walls was where they really wanted to be. Given that sleep is on the most basic of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, self-actualization and "The Universe" seemed like pie in the sky concepts.
But I was desperate so, despite its verrrry short content time, I gave "The Universe Has Your Back" a chance.
Holy cow, am I so glad I did!
Here you'll find the Holy Moment, living with certainty, and my favorite: a 24-hour challenge to yourself to find the love and live miracles.
Once I stopped whining about how very tired I was and devoted myself to looking for the good things, the things that were going right, once I decided to stop snapping at my husband and start letting him in, the miraculous happened:
I. Was. Happy.
Even the overnight security guard said I was *glowing*. Yes, that word, and trust me, I felt it.
Are you stuck? Do you judge other people, judge yourself, harshly? Is fear something that you just can't seem to let go of?
Give this book a try. You'll find more than mindfulness/meditation suggestions. You'll receive guidelines, exercises, mantras, that you can hold onto, no matter how desperate you feel. And Gabby is so incredibly human. At a spiritual retreat, when asked: What Do You Want? She says she wants a snack, a nap, no, coffee would be nice. Whom amongst us is not taken down by the everyday harshness of life, fatigue, hesitation?
Worth the time, worth the credit. And by the way? You're worth it too...!

This is a good reminder book
This book will teach you why you need to trust your intuition and guidance which comes from the higher guidance here called the Universe. The author talks about all reasons why to listen to your guides, how they will help you and why you need to listen to them. Remember you may want something so much you push against a wall until you realize you need to flow. Being in flow will move you along your path faster than you can believe!

Ugggggghhhhh.
I have never left a review this harsh about anything in my life, but I felt so scammed, I just could t help myself. I have been completely inspired by the likes of Carolyn Myss, Louise Hay, Deepak Choprah and Gary Zukav. And I literally HATED this book. Every word, every insinuation. Besides the fact that Gabby's voice is like nails on a chalk board in its inauthenticity, she is quite literally regurgitating everything everyone who has ever come before her has said (they said it with more authenticity, wisdom, and humility). There's not one original thought in this book besides her personal accounts which are dripping with a really awkward self-serving arrogance that I just couldn't overcome. She had my skin crawling. Ewh. The very best (and only redeeming) quality about this book is the title and the pretty woman on the cover. Zero depth. If you don't want to learn from the masters, you can listen to this for a watered-down stoner cliff notes version. I hope no one pays to hear his woman speak. God help us. And if Audible offered refunds, I'd be all in.

Annoying to listen
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who does not read a lot on the subject of spirituality or meditation.
What was most disappointing about Gabrielle Bernstein’s story?
A lot of coincidences and miraculous events in her life. I am not sure if she just saw thinks in new light or something great actually happened?
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator sounded just right for the plot. The story goes a little bit like "the girl looses a boyfriend and great job in one day, so she decides to travels around the world and she quickly finds a knight in foreign country. They get married even though parents disapprove."
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment

Enough of the Life Coaches
Life coaching industry is a joke. It’s unregulated and people are basically paying someone to tell them how to live. Very vulnerable people are turning to this dangerous profession for help when what they really need is a very good therapist. Life coaching industry is full of ego-centered people who need continual validation.

2 of these chapters are good
There are two good chapters in this book: the one about letting go of judgement and the one about the holy instant. The rest of the word feels like words strung together into meaningless sentences. She used words interchangeably. She also uses very generic words like spirit, truth, love, power without really defining them or contextualizing them.
It was entertaining and relaxing to read but the content is not great.

I just don’t get it.
Nothing in this approach to happiness and love speaks to me. It’s not bad....it just doesn’t ring true to me. I couldn’t listen for more than a chapter. I don’t think there’s a “darkness within me” that “resists and pushes back light”. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not trying to mock it...it just is not an angle that resonates with me. At all.

It's alright
Pretty decent listen, but a lot of the information seems subjective. By that, I mean that the information provided does not have research to back anything up. All of the information is presented from Gabrielle's personal experiences, and the experiences of the people she knows. That wouldn't be a problem, if she didn't make it seem that her personal experiences were a source of credibility. A personal experience is important, but is not a source of credibility. In addition, the term "The Universe" seems very ambiguous. She refers to multiple religions, such as Hinduism, Christianity, and Buddhism. Although these religions have many similarities, they are different from each other. Picking and choosing different aspects of different religions to fit your narrative is insulting to people who practice those religions. If you believe in Universalism, which is it's own religion (the belief of all religions), state it early so that people can understand your beliefs. Besides those things, the book was pretty good.

Good if you are new to spirituality
I listened to this book recommended by a friend. I had heard of Gabrielle Bernstein on Oprah’s podcast and had really enjoyed her talks. I thought the book was ok but a little bit too much on the surface and « lovy dovy unicorn like » for me and made my eyes roll a few times 🙄🌈. If you are new to spirituality, I think you will really like it as she has many inspiring stories to tell including hers. If you have been on this path for many years, may not be for you.
