The Imperial Legion marches, and war looms on the horizon....

Jack Mitchel and his misfit crew of rebels never wanted a fight with the Empire, but the time for diplomacy has passed.

Ruthless tech genius Robert Osmark is coming, and trailing behind him is a vast army determined to wipe the Crimson Alliance from the face of Eldgard. Impossibly, Jack has united the warring Murk Elf clans under his banner, but even with their aid, the Alliance is still badly outnumbered, and Osmark has some nasty tricks up his sleeves.

And while the long-awaited battle unfolds, an ancient evil stirs in the heart of Viridian Gate Online - one that will change the game forever.

So far it's enjoyable

So I kinda struggle with giving this an overall 4, I would say 7/10 is more accurate. I am enjoying it enough to continue with the series though.

Pros:
It's fun, lots of fights, the MC is strong but doesn't easily win any of the actual battles.
The story, world and the way the AI are the real threats is pretty interesting take.
It has an ongoing relationship with the MC but it's very much in the background.
Cons:
The author repeats alot of phrases "like a pot fly" "a few practice swings" stuff like this.
It feels very non stop, the pacing is very fast which isn't necessarily bad, it just feels like we only learn anything about anyone during the fights which are frequent but usually short.

Just wish

That the main character would stop calling everything a game changer. Also it also makes no sense that the overmind doesn’t just give Jack extra points to make him a better agent

This one lost my interest in the series

The story was basic at best.
Writing was so so as well.
Narration gets old extremely quickly. Every word out of his mouth sounds so dramatic that when there is a dramatic moment, there is no inflection.

Anyways, I can’t continue the series after this one.

Declining in quality, or rising in price.

I really enjoyed the first three of these books available free through audible plus, but this one wasn't worth the credit. The writing is amateurish, with lots of incorrectly used words and exaggerated repetitive similes. The narrator isn't bad, but I'm not a fan of his whisper screaming. These issues were present in the earlier books, but were either less prominent or easier to ignore since the books were free anyway.

Couldn't even finish it

I couldn't even finish this book. The characters have to be the most one dimensional characters I have ever read. Absolutely no character development over the course of the story. Characters can all be summed up by a single attribute such as American patriot, Russian scientist, thief, dictator, etc.

Seriously surprised I got this far. There is something wrong with the Audible ratings cause many many other reviews agree this book is bad but it still shows a high score when you go to buy it.

Disappointing

I really wanted this book to be good. The original concept behind the first book was great and the set up was well thought out, but it's slowly fallen apart since then. The Narrator does a good job with different voices for characters and system messages, but the writing is lacking in a few areas.

The first issue is the lack of depth in each character. You hardly find out anything new or interesting about them and the author regularly repeats the few things that we already know.

The second problem I have is that the original hinted at romance between Jack and Abby hasn't gotten more than a few paragraphs since the first book. The author has rushed the story from one battle to another without taking the time to build up the characters or develop their relationships, causing me to lose interest in them.
