Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Publisher's Summary
Raised and trained in seclusion at a secret fortress on the edge of the northern wilds of the Kingdom of Ashai, a young warrior called Rezkin is unexpectedly thrust into the outworld when a terrible battle destroys all that he knows. With no understanding of his life’s purpose and armed with masterful weapons mysteriously bestowed upon him by a dead king, Rezkin must travel across Ashai to find the one man who may hold the clues to his very existence.
Determined to adhere to his last orders, Rezkin extends his protection to an unlikely assortment of individuals he meets along the way, often leading to humorous and poignant incidents.
As if pursuing an elite warrior across a kingdom, figuring out who he is and why everyone he knows is dead, and attempting to find these so-called friends and protect them is not enough, strange things are happening in the kingdom. New dangers begin to arise that threaten not only Rezkin and his friends, but possibly everyone in Ashai.
This is the first installment of an ongoing series. This book is intended for adult readers. It contains graphic violence, creative language, and sexual innuendo. This book does not contain explicit sexual content.

Fantastic Narration
The story is a really captivating idea. Well written. The narration is outstanding. Nick does distinct voices for almost every character that make sense to who the voice is supposed to be. I was impressed.

I am throughly taken with this tale. It can only get better. Beautifully narration. We do not know why our hero was trained or who our hero was at birth.
He has completed all of his skills with only one directive if he follows the rules he will persevere . So exciting. I am so looking forward to the rest of this story.

I Enjoyed This Read Very Much!
I took a chance on this book because some fantasy series for me get boring and hard to follow. Also because reading the reviews people either loved or hated it. I was so happy I decided to give it a try. I loved this book and have continued the series. All the things people seemed to have a problem with I enjoyed. The fact that the main character seems all-knowing and unbeatable was refreshing who does not get disappointed when the advertised badass is not like truly badass. It added fun to the action and makes you smile so much. The fact that he was so isolated from the social world makes for some fun laughs and hilarious situations. It adds a growth for the character that is so enjoyable, refreshing and unique. I am currently on book 2 and enjoying the author's story and world a lot.
Narration: This narrator was such a pleasure to listen to. He added so much to the story and is one of the best so far. He adds to the listening experience so much.

Fun easy listening book
Great book to listen to! It’s easy listening meaning it does not take much to get enveloped in the story. The character is really over powered but at the cost of having no social skills or cues which leads to funny interactions. The narrator does a fantastic job choosing how to voice each character. Especially with the General, who sounds like sean connery which suits the character quite well. All in all i would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and is able to have fun with a book and not take everything so seriously.

a very fun listen
a few other reviews have mentioned this being a power fantasy... that is very much true, the main character is super OP. That being said, I don't think that's a bad thing now and then, it's made for a really entertaining listen! This book had me laughing quite a bit, and then you add in the fact that it was superbly narrated by the extremely talented Nick Podehl, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book!
