Could have been a twenty minute book

Mel is a master narrator with great persuasion skills. However, that is all this is. She sounds so sure of herself, so convincing that she knows the science, but she doesn't. For instance, her report on the sleep research if not just a bit wrong, but almost completely wrong.

This book has one somewhat interesting idea in it, that is it. One short chapter would have covered it, the rest is pure filler and often incorrect.

Alot of fluff but had some really great concepts

Needs more application, homework you can actually do and less success stories. but overall helped

I am inspired

What a beautiful person to share a simple concept that can change the way we think in five seconds.
I loved all the emails Mel read, they were truly inspiring.
I am so excited to take on the five second rule to change in me what don't like and enhance in me what do like.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is questioning their life or anyone needing a boost (and we all do).
By the way, I have never written a review and I read at least one book a week. What did I do, I 54321 go and wrote the review.
Enjoy the book, read Iit or listen and then read or listen till it is burned in your mind. Yo will not regret it,

Could be shorter but the idea makes sense.

Mel Robbins does a great job engaging the reader in a great concept. The point could have been made in a shorter format, but her delivery keeps you coming back and the stories are inspiring. Well worth a listen.

If you are stuck you're going to love this book!

I just listened to the whole audiobook over the past two days and will be listening to it again (and reading the hard copy version.) Perfect timing as we transition into a new year.

Have already put the principle to work with the simplest actions.

Good core concept, but Mel ruined it.

Maybe ruin is harsh, I liked the concept, and sure she dragged it out... but so much she self-appreciates herself, taking many opportunities to say how she and other say she is all that. You can always tell she is reading a story and not just speaking because it actually sounds humble. Also, she generalizes, saying if you get an impulse that you want, don’t think, just count and do it... well in many scenarios that is a horrible idea (ie. Criminal acts). That aside, it’s my main point that bugged me, that and that she spend a whole chapter talking about how she just finished this course which is the real one that will change your life... like seriously, I bought this one, don’t spend twenty minutes selling me something else! With a few changes this could have been much better, but instead it made me want to steer clear of this author.

so amazing I will read it over and over

if you have ever felt stuck in your life this book is a must read. Mel Robbins is amazing her tips tricks and stories make this book one to read over and over again.
I highly recommend it.

A Must read!!

I turned it off after an hour.

It's a great tool. 54321 GO! It really does hijack your brain momentarily and get you moving.
However, the book is FULL of fluff. Her reading feedback from her fans about how they've used the '5 second rule' to make changes, over and over and over and over and over again is not my idea of a 'book'. It's a 'Ra Ra' rally and a waste of my time. In the end I found it annoying. The tool however does work to defeat procrastination. You can probably find a blog post or a TEDx talk somewhere that will give you all you need.

After the first five minutes you don't need to continue. The rest is just examples to support this idea. I feel I wasted my credit this month

Good concept but couldn't relate

They tell a bunch of stories of other people and the story is said over about 20 min per person and then says the one little instance they used the 5 second rule. It's a book with tons of filler and not much substance

Simple and extremely powerful!

So I have about 190 Audible books in my library and this is my first full review. While there are so many books telling you what we can do to achieve greatness, this book provides a tool that truly works. I first tried it to get up in the morning to workout, and I literally was able because of this simple yet powerful tool. I highly recommend this to anyone who overthinks things and ends up not taking action. Thank you Mel, I will be passing this along.

I just did the 54321 seconds rule, I'm writing a review...this alone is frightening for me. I think it's because deep down I always want to write, what I think and feel, but I never bother because I thought about it to much . It's simple and a small start will do, I just did. Thanks to Mel Robbins, I have re-connected within my self to force myself the "GO" push using her 54321. I recommend it to anyone, who desperately wants a change and a chance to find them self again. I totally love her tone of voice and stories she use to demonstrate her point across. The message is so clear, that I'm so glad I was listening. I hope you find my review useful, but most of all, that you find yourself doing the 54321, now Go!

Would have been better as a motivational poster

I tried to listen to as much as this book as I could stomach, but there was just no substance. It was the same exact statement reworded over and over again a million different ways. On top of that the author likes to laugh at her quirks, at odd times.

As I'm trying to listen to it right now, the book is telling me, again, how the rule will help me, without specifying anything else about this rule. There are "volumes and volumes of research proving that it works," which aren't cited.

I would suggest skipping over this book, because the entire book is the author counting down from 5, over and over and over with fluff in between

Exhorting mightily.

Good information repeated often so every one can understand. The important point is stated at the outset. A lot of everyday examples but I felt a little beaten up by the narrator at middle of the book. I think the content is important but more effective with a more subtle approach. If you feel the same way, stop for a couple of hours (or days) and return.

Thanks Mel

I am a stay at home mom, and for too long I have let that box determine what others thought of me and what I'm capable of, and I cared. But it was an excuse to not live up to my full potential, because I've never done anything else & I was scared to fail and confirm their beliefs. I have started a home based busines now, and I homeschool my kids, & I manage our real estate properties. We are on our way to the life of our dreams & I get to contribute in a big way. I am going to live everyday to its fullest and love with my whole heart leaving nothing important unsaid. Thanks Mel, the courage and capacity was within me the whole time, but something led me to your book, and now I have found myself, and am sure I can achieve anything.

Nice but a little long

The book is nice, the rule is pretty useful.
Once you grab the concept the rest of the book is just motivation speak.
Now, 5 4 3 2 1 go do that thing your are always thinking of doing

Good book!

Finished the audio version in 2 days. Pretty addictive. Good delivery by Mel, as usual. Will read again.
