Publisher's Summary

"Believing that something is wrong with us is a deep and tenacious suffering," says Tara Brach at the start of this illuminating book. This suffering emerges in crippling self-judgments and conflicts in our relationships, in addictions and perfectionism, in loneliness and overwork - all the forces that keep our lives constricted and unfulfilled. Radical Acceptance offers a path to freedom, including the day-to-day practical guidance developed over Dr. Brach's 20 years of work with therapy clients and Buddhist students.

Writing with great warmth and clarity, Tara Brach brings her teachings alive through personal stories and case histories, fresh interpretations of Buddhist tales, and guided meditations. Step by step, she leads us to trust our innate goodness, showing how we can develop the balance of clear-sightedness and compassion that is the essence of Radical Acceptance. Radical Acceptance does not mean self-indulgence or passivity. Instead it empowers genuine change: healing fear and shame and helping to build loving, authentic relationships. When we stop being at war with ourselves, we are free to live fully every precious moment of our lives.

What the critics say

" Radical Acceptance offers gentle wisdom and tender healing, a most excellent medicine for our unworthiness and longing. Breathe, soften, and let these compassionate teachings bless your heart." (Jack Kornfield, author of A Path with Heart)

Better off listening to the podcasts

Her podcasts are more impactful, pertinent, and engaging. Overall, I thought this book was poorly written. The content and writing are repetitive, the difference between sections is unclear, and it's slightly distressing to hear negative affective words over and over and over again across chapters. With a little bit more editing this book could be half the length, with double the impact, and a focus on the benefits of radical acceptance. I cannot recommend this book. But I 100% recommend her podcasts. Tara Brach is brilliant human being

foundational reading

foundational reading for a meditation practice. draws on multiple lineages and tradtions, mostly but not solely Buddhist. could certainly "take what you like and leave the rest", meaning, wisdom is wisdom---irregardless of what tradition it arise from. many possibilities to take the seeds Brach gifts us with and plant them in gardens of all spiritual traditions.

Wanted to love it but just couldn’t quite get into it

I wanted to love this book, and it has a lot of good concepts but it’s not very straight forward to the point and there’s a lot of fluff that makes it kind of confusing to listen to... Lovely concept but might have to come back to it later in life

no chapter informations

I like the book itself but missing details. there no chapter information other than chapter 1,2,3,4... hard to navigate the flow of the book. If you ever want to listen a chapter again, you got to listen to all content. Please pay more attentions when creating audio book...

i want to like it...

I really wanted to like this book. Im just starting into chapter 7 of 18 chapters and it's quite hard to go on. So many references to anecdotal experiences, feels more autobiographic than informative. Yes, there have been a few gems guiding listener to self acceptance, it's just that the same message seems to be spoken about 100 different ways.

The narration is particularly "painful" for me. Just so artificially sugar sweet. I felt am internal cringe every few words. I feel guilty that hey voice annoys me, iso that can be my teacher.

Book could probably easily be half the length. I am not on chapter 13 and there have been some more gems revealed. i recommend it for people who like lots of anecdotes.

Calming and rejuvenating

Wordy and long at times, but the bones are outstanding! I will keep and listen to this again and again. It's the kind of book you can always take something else from.
